Lightroom Classic: Slow loading previews
Dear Adobe,
Major issues with Lightroom and now Lightroom "classic" being so slow, I can check emails while previews are loading, even though previews have already been built. I emailed you, you sent me here. Why? Was it so I wouldn't feel so alone? Thanks. I have LOTS of company here in what I've come to know as "The Misery Bin". We're like a bunch of misfit toys here. Tons of issues, none have been addressed.
I have two more weddings from October that I'm scrambling to finish so I can migrate my workflow to ACDSee Studio. It's amazing. Familiar enough layout to easily switch from Lightroom, MUCH cheaper ($13 a month), and can be customized so keyboard shortcuts are the same as Lightroom. And it runs like a high level RAW photo editor and organizer should run. I'm telling you this because I'm hoping that anyone and everyone who reads this will give ACDSee a try.
The worst part? You'll still get my money each month because I use and need the other adobe programs that come with creative cloud. That's the worst part - you will do absolutely nothing, just as you have done absolutely nothing over the past several years as the issues with Lightroom's speed have steadily grown worse as the program itself has slowed down. You'll do nothing because there's no incentive for you to do so. People can bitch and moan all they want, but if they need Photoshop, or Premiere, or AfterEffects, they'll have to keep on paying you and it won't matter that Lightroom has become a moss-covered sloth of a program. You'll keep raking in those bucks and profits will soar because none of that cash will be sunk back into, oh I don't know, maybe fixing the issues with lightroom.
The ability to address each and every one of the issues here is within your grasp. You're simply choosing to do nothing.
I ain't even mad. Just very disappointed.

I'm not a professional, just an avid hobbyist who has lots of time in retirement.
This morning, I've been doing some relatively simple edits on a couple of photos, one that includes some masking.
Now I don't have the fastest machine around, but it sure isn't the slowest either (8-core processor running at 4 GHz, 16 Gb of RAM). But when I use the brush to mask an area, the brush stroke lags behind the mouse cursor. After I release the mouse button, then the spinning wheel starts and, eventually, the screen begins to show the masked area that I just indicated. (This makes it a real pain near edges!)
I've already purchased Luminar 2018 for Windows and will give that a look when it is released. It is very likely that I will also be purchasing ACDSee. Unlike the professional photographers, however, I don't need to pay Adobe for any other programs after my year is up and I won't.
Photoshop is a VERY good program. The capabilities and features of the program have lived up to what I expected when I subscribed last January (Photoshop Lightroom no so much). But if Photoshop is slow and frustrating for me, I cannot imagine what it is like to be trying to get output so that you can get paid.
I cannot figure out why Photoshop Lightroom still exists other than as a collection of shortcuts to do what Photoshop does more exactly. And with the mobile photos now sync'd with Photoshop it seems clear to me that before too long customers will see Lightroom as a poorly-done introduction to Photoshop -- no matter what Adobe's long-term plans are for Lightroom CC/Classic?/Pro/"Photoshop Lite". After all, the full name of Lightroom has been "Photoshop Lightroom".

When I have hundreds or a thousand or more photos to go through from a wedding, I need to be able to see the raw images at 100% to pick out the winners. Lightroom used to excel at this. Bridge is not ideal for this and photoshop is too slow for the volume of photos.
Luminar looks promising, but I'm really digging ACDSee

When Adobe moved to the subscription model I was quite positive towards it because I didn't have to find a few grand up front. But now I see what it's really about. Addiction. They knew what they were doing. They have spreadsheets, I'm sure, showing how they can slash the cost of support and development with this model - 'cause they sure do very little of either.
Like you, it's difficult for me to tell Adobe where to get off because there are apps in their suite for which I can't find an alternative. Thankfully LR ain't one of them. Paid my Luminar purchase and awaiting the update. In the meantime I'll give ACDSee a look.

Lightroom Classic CC slow to create 1:1 Previews during import?
It's a massive bug in 7.0.1! Roll back to 7.0.0 and you'll be back to normal.
1. Launch the Adobe Creative Cloud app.
2. On the Apps tab, click on the drop down arrow next to Lightroom Classic CC and choose Other Versions.
3. Choose 7.0 and click Install
4. Be amazed that Adobe could screw up Lightroom so badly but revel in the fact that you are working again.

This piece of software is Windows XP in 2018.
If Adobe would put the same effort in Lightroom as they put in selling subscriptions and their obsession with 'THE CLOUD' then Lightroom could be what Capture One already is.
