Lightroom Classic: Range Mask: Show Luminance Mask vs. Show Selected Mask Overlay - different results

Is this normal? Shouldn't they both be identical?

Not necessarily. But it looks like there are different adjustments between the two images?

Same adjustment. That's the issue.

Maybe the same adjustment, but you have [Show Luminance Mask] turned 'ON' in the first photo, and 'OFF' in the second photo. The mask will definitely look different.!

When 'OFF'- the mask is showing any area you have brushed (or used the Gradient- with a very slight -0.3 exposure) with the extremely feathered (100) brush. Notice the pink mask shows over grey areas of the background.

When 'ON'- the mask is now being limited to areas that fall between 80-100 on the Range slider. Now the mask will be limited to the 'white' or brighter areas of the image, ie. the foliage.

So not a problem or bug, all is as I would expect to see.
Also run the 'Smoothness' slider up/down and you will see changes to the mask overlay.
