Lightroom Classic: Option to automatically import the outputs of export or print
Print to File to have the option to automatically import those created files into the catalog, and maybe a subfolder/collection as well... (maybe same option in the Export function too) Sometimes you want to track your output variations too...

You can already auto-import in Export, though IMO this is rather a high price to pay if all you wanted was to "track" that.
Because another way (a very efficient one) to track output variations explicitly: is with virtual copies.
Or you can make Snapshots I suppose, less usefully maybe.
But my main point is: each time you Export a new History state occurs showing a timestamp. You can now or later, without complicating your Catalog management by including any output images, set one of these prior Export states as the Before state, for the Before/After feature. Or make a virtual copy from that.
And thus compare that earlier state against your latest edit, or against anything else, without any doubling-up of what images are imported.
And then continue editing from there. Unlike re-importing an exported file, this virtual copy WILL be conducive to further adjustment since it still refers back to the camera file, e.g. Raw - it is just as uncompromised in that way, as was the image you were looking at when you did your Export.
