Lightroom Classic: Merge photo with HDR, but "Failed to import the final merged result "

This problem just happened to me, I tried to merge 3 photos with in HDR, there is no problem with the merge process, but then it pop up and said "Failed to import the final merged result from........"

I checked my folder, I can find the dng file in the folder, and I tried to import the photo by myself manually, but lightroom says the photo has already been imported, but I can't see any dng file in the catalog.

I didn't select anything when I'm doing the merge.

And if I move the dng file to another folder, I can import it by myself manually.
This issue happened on Lightroom 7.4, and I uninstall it and install Lightroom 8.3, but the problem still exist.

My system is windows 10 ver.1809
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Very odd indeed.  I don't have a solution but try entering the image file name of the combined DNG into the text filter (file name contains DSC01241.dng) after selecting the "All Photographs" special collection.  If the image from the original merge comes up (rather than the re-imported one) right click on it and select "Go to Folder in Library" to see where it is.

I suspect this won't work but may throw an error message that could be useful.  Also, depending on what happens, it may give a clue that the catalog is damaged in some way.

This may be the result of the so-called 'capitalisation problem'. Do do what Dan says and report back where the image is. Check the path mentioned in the error dialog, and compare the current folder of the merged DNG with that path. Does the folder (or a parent folder!) have the same name but different capitalisation?

Does this happen always with these images?
What happens if you merge them in a new catalog?
If it happens consistently, please get us these images. (I have sent you an e-mail off-list.)

Thanks,

Hi Ko,

From the name of the merge image, it seems that you were performing merge multiple times on the same photo set.
The issue mentioned by you can happen if you delete the image from the disk without removing it from the catalog and perform a merge again. For next merge, Lr may generate merged image with the same name(already deleted on the disk) and import it to the catalog. This import will fail due to an existing entry in the catalog, but the existing image entry should get linked to the image on the disk.
We are aware of this issue and will attempt a fix in the future releases. However, if you landed into this issue with some other workflow, do share your workflow with us so that we can address that as well while working on the fix.

Thanks guys, I have solved the issue, I guess...
This is what I found :
Usually lightroom will import the dng file after merge and put it right next to the images which I merge from, but now lightroom just randomly put it between all of my photos, so I have to look for it at the bottom between all the other images.
Although lightroom did import the dng file after merge, I don't know why it still pop up the error.
anyway I can see the dng file in the catalog now...

I'm having the same problem, but I'm having it with both HDR and panorama merges. The difference I have is that sometimes, half way through the process my computer completely locks up & I have to reboot it. The other times I get the "failed to import" error message, but there is no sign of a .dng file anywhere, even in the folder where it says it failed to import the file from. Any suggestions out there?

I am getting an error message. Unable to merge photos. Failed to import the final merged result from/ volumes...

I have Catalina on a Mac with LrC and PS2021. This is very frustrating as it took me a week to find a fix for the write access issue I had before this issue.
I see on line where there are also issues with pano

the images I am trying to merge are shot bracketed with all the same initial settings

says it's not importing from my external hard drive  but no merge is found anywhere. Also I get a preview of the merge before hitting "merge" so I don't get it
