Usually a message about not being able to read the photos means you have not chosen a valid location to copy the photos to and are doing a Copy rather than an Add type of import.  Can you give more details about what you're doing?  Can we see a screenshot of the message?

Tell us what you did Raphael? It doesn't usually "delete presets" but they could be hidden by the Preferences > Presets > Store Presets with This Catalog checkbox.

Ok, so did you copy the presets over to the new drive?

You can. If you are sure you want that.

Right, go to Preferences > Presets tab > Show Lightroom Develop Presets. Are there XMP format presets in that location?
  • If yes, check Preferences > Presets tab > Show Partially Compatible Develop Presets. Are they back?
  • If not, click the Show All Other Lightroom Presets button and look in the Develop Presets. Are your presets in there?

I’m trying to go back to Photoshop CS6 because it’s easier to teach a constant to 6th formers! But now I can’t Open with to CS6 even though it’s still on my PC. It makes it really time consuming when working to deadlines.

If they're not in either location, then you haven't copied them over from the old drive yet.

There's one more possibility. Find your catalog. Is there a Lightroom Settings folder next to the catalog? If so, look for both a Develop presets and a Settings folder in there, and see if either is populated.
