Lightroom Classic: Has been slow/horrible

I was wondering if it was my computer, but posted this in a photography FB group the other day.  LR is so slow!  A suggestion was that cameras used to have low MP and now they are so much larger.  It took me 3 hrs the other day with something that should have taken me a half hour or less!  Other photographers agree with me.  Horrible productivity!  I'm hoping that someone from Adobe will see this and get the programmers to FIX this issue.

Agreed.  I just upgraded to LR Classic CC from LR 6.  I'm running a MacPro with eight-core 3.0 GHz CPU, 4TB SSD, 128GB RAM, and two 8GB GPU, and it takes nearly an hour to load up with all drives and collection counts and the last import.

Seriously?  I mean really!

I'm going to have to go back to using LR 6—I kept the complete set of catalog and preview files—and I'll only have to re-import 538 images into the old catalog and say 'sayonara' to this POS unless and until Adobe does something about delivering the performance they promised LR 7.x would have.

Thank you for agreeing! I sure hope to God someone from Adobe sees this! I didn't even think of going to a different version.

I waited for months before upgrading, simply because of all of the bug reports.  But after five new 7.x versions, and the new Loupedeck+ (which requires 7.4 and above for full functionality) I took the plunge.  After all, Adobe spent all of their effort for each release bragging about the improved performance.  So like an idiot I believed them.

Liars.

Talk about regret!

I'm not having any difficulties with LR on my setup.
With another issue where LR froze when creating a new catalog I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling LR.
Sometimes issues with these apps require a reinstall of Adobe Creative Cloud.
My catalogs are large, for example: 11,361 images, mostly TIF, NEF, CR2 and others.
High Sierra 10.13.6
iMac
Mac (27-inch, Late 2012)
3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Can we be a bit more scientific about this, for example:

What exactly is slow? And how long is "slow" in seconds or minutes?
Where is your catalog stored?
Where are the images stored?
What are your system specs (from Help menu > System Info would work)?
