Lightroom Classic: Geo tagging doesn‘t work

Hi there, I appreciate the Tutorials on YouTube for geo-mapping photos. However, my new LR Classic CC doesn't behave like shown there: tagging photos selected to a certain point at the map does not end up in copying the GPS coordinates into the metadata. If I compare your video with my LR action, I see that not only the orange flag moving with the flag, but also a +-sign in a green circle coming with it. I would highly appreciate, if you someone could give me a hint, where to change settings or the way I work. Regards, Steffen

Here's a screen recording of what dragging a photo from the filmstrip to the map should like like:

Perhaps you can provide a screen recording or screenshots of what you see instead. Also, please copy here the first ten lines of Help > System Info.

Thanks for helping me, John, and for the movie. Another hint I found worked our well. I deactivated the GPS settings of my catalogue. After restarting LR I activated the setting again. After this 51 open address searches disappeared and the geo tagging is now workin fine. By the way, did you use quicktime for screen recording. I will use it for the next problem, too. Regards, Steffen

Hi Steffen,
Glad to know you got it working again!

Would you mind explaining the "address searches disappearing" comment? Where did they disappear from? Were these searches being done in the Map module for specific addresses or places? Are you facing any issues with the Search feature in the Map module?

Thanks for any insights!

Hi, I would be happy, if the problem with geo tagging really disappeared. However, I didn't completely.

For your background: I am just moving vom Apple Aperture to Lightroom CC Classic by exporting the originals and importing them. Thus, I import quiet a lot of pictures at one time; roughly 8.000 in about 16 moves.

After each import, LR hast to create previews. After that the indexing of faces starts, too. In parallel, LR starts to the geo tagging.

Now, waht happens? The indexing an tagging seems to stop at a certain time. there are now 600 something pics in process for face indexing an more than 5.000 pic in process for geo tagging. Even after hours of operating LR, the state doesn't change.

Even deactivating geo tagging in the settings of the catalogue and restarting LR, than activating it again, doesn't help.

At least I am surprised by this behaviour, since most of my pics have no GPS information embedded.

I hope, you can understand the situation and can suggest, what I can do.

Happy shooting, Steffen
