Lightroom Classic: Develop Module problem with GPU accelerator and Radeon R9 driver

I was using the latest AMD driver 18.2.1 and updated LR Classic to the latest version. Started LR and experienced a problem viewing images in the Develop Module with GPU Accelerator on. Turning it OFF solves the problem but slows down LR.

Researched the forum and found a post that apparently addressed the problem in a previous LR version. The recommendation was to use the 17.7.1 Radeon driver.

I uninstalled 18.2.1 and did a clean install of 17.7.1. Rebooted Windows, started LR and the same problem persists with GPU accelerator on.

Researched the forum again and found another post recommending that "Wait for Vertical Refresh" be tuned On....Reboot...and then Turn Off....restart LR.  Tried this and the problem viewing images in LR Develop module persists.

Could an Adobe engineer recommend a solution that actually fixes the problem without disabling the GPU accelerator. This problem has been a trend through multiple iterations of LR and it would be nice if Adobe can issue a patch to fix this bug.

There's a newer AMD driver v 18.3.2 released 3/12/2018. The release notes don't mention anything concerning LR, but worth a try. If that doesn't work set "Wait for Vertical Refresh" to 'Always On' mode and leave it that way. Next reboot your system and try LR again.

Thanks for this info. 
I have a AMD Radeon R9 380, using the same drivers as the graphic card mentioned above. I will try the newest drivers (although Win10 sais 18.2.1 is the latest, which I installed about 10 days ago). 
Already made a new Lr start , resetting the prefs. It set the GPU support by default, but then after 2-3 images Lr doesn't show any previews (main panel completely black) till you put GPU support off. 
What kind of feature is it, that is not useable on a whole lot of machines out there???
Resetting the prefs, made Lr a bit faster at the start, but the problem occurs again after editing 20+ image files. And that's what pro photographers have Lr for after all, right?.

this problem still exists, even after the big jump to lightroom cc version 2.+ and radeon drivers 18.10.xx. just bad engineering from adobe, ignoring a problem like that, affecting a wide userbase. meh.

So true, even with the newest Lr Classic CC and Ps CC 2019, after trying the "trick" with putting off vertical refresh in the Radeon software .... Nope, everything as bad as before.
Today I worked on one single image from Lr schwitching to Ps. A 6.000 px image, nothing special, background layer in Ps with only one adjustment layer for some stamping. After I was satisfied I reduced the image to one layer and wanted to do some liquifying. During start up of the liquify filter Ps hung up completely .... No way to get back to the image.
I then looked in task manager and to my great surprise Lr consumed over 10 Gig memory and Ps another 6 Gig .... for working on one plain normal image!!
This GPU is already the third model I bought hoping to end these troubles ...
Lr - and especially in combination with Ps - is no langer part of a quick and smooth workflow, cost me lots of extra time.
Soon I will switch completely to Capture One. I am sick of this rubbish Adobe is producing since about 2 years ago. Before I never ever had any issue with Adobe software. Those good old days ....
