Lightroom classic cc upgrade on HP Windows 7 laptop keeps bluescreening

HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC, 8GB RAM, Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium at service pack 1.
Photos and Lightroom Catalogues are saved on USB 3.0 external drive.
Trying to upgrade to Lightroom Classic CC, keep getting Bluescreen, initially during the catalogue upgrade, which has now completed, but now crashes starting the app.
Anyone seen this problem?

Frustrating! Does the entire screen turn blue or just the Develop area where your image normally is?

Ah, I need to be more specific - PC Bluescreen of death....the PC crashes completely.
It has crashed when updating the previous version catalogue (5 attempts), or shortly afterwards when opening Classic CC.
I haven't got as far as having a working version open.

This is almost always caused by a hardware issue or simply overheating.  You can download the free CPUID HWMonitor to check the CPU and GPU temperature:

Todd is right - this is almost always indicative of a hardware issue. Time to get things checked under the hood...

Found the problem, it was a Windows Update KB2670838, which causes the HP dv7 to crash with the blue screen (known issue: "Re: blue screen on pavilion dv7 - igdpmd64.sys")
I have had this update for sometime and this new Lightroom is the first application that has caused the crash on my PC.
Seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for your suggestions.
