Lightroom Classic CC: Image blacks out in development mode with Radeon RX 470

The image blacks out when in development mode.  The only thing that brings it back is to disable the GPU but this causes a significant degradation in performance in Development mode.  I've tried everything I could find or could think of.  This issue started back in April on LR6 when AMD released 17.4.4 with my R7 series in which LR would either blackout or hang.  I at the time purchased a new RX 470 thinking the card was the issue but found that it was not.  I figured out on my own after interaction with AMD that I had to downgrade to 17.2.1.  That worked until I upgraded recently to LR Classic CC.  It no longer hangs but the image goes black in development mode.  I've tried both the latest driver (17.11.1) and 17.2.1 using the DDU utility in between to be sure it's a clean install.  Neither work.  I see a LOT of people on forums both within and outside of Adobe forums that have this issue.  I've tried downloading the config.lua and I've tried messing with all the graphics card settings.  Nothing helps.  It is very frustrating.

I'D LIKE TO HAVE SOME IDEA OF WHEN THIS WILL BE FIXED.  I've also talked with Adobe support and they are aware of this issue as well but they gave me no hope.  My finger is on the shotgun trigger to buy both a new Nvidia Quadro card AND Macphun's new Luminar 2018.  I am about ready to switch, although it's not my preferred path.

My system info:

Dell 30 Ultrashapr Monitor U3014. Resolution is set to 2560 x 1600.

Video Card:  XFS Radeon RX 470 4GB, currently running 17.2.1 Driver level (recommended by Adobe to run prior to 17.4.4)

CPU:  Core i7-4790K Haswell Quad-Core 4.0GHz (overclocked to 4.3GHz)

Memory:  32GB DDR3-1600 clocked to 800MHz

Motherboard:  ASRock Z97 Extreme6

OS:  Windows 7 64bit

I've done quite a bit of debug but without having internal knowledge or tools to do deeper debug into the card or program, there's only so much I can do.  I am an electrical/engineer and I deal regularly with compatibility issues with vendor interface cards.  I know working with them on tough issues can be challenging, but AMD is a major producer of GPUs and this has been going on since April.  The downlevel driver has worked until recently.  I built my wife a nearly identical system except that she has an Nvidia GPU and has had no issue.  But no AMD?  Really?!
