Lightroom Classic: Catalogue for big archive

It would be great if we have one more upper level in a catalogue - say, "Catalogue of Catalogues" and an opportunity not only import photos from another catalogue but simply ADD (or connect) another catalogue to existing one. The idea is, when your archive is relatively high (mine is about 15 TB) and you have one catalogue for all, LR goes slow. To avoid I make separate catalogues per session or per travel, per client, etc. But when I collect photos for some project, album or something like that I need to search through the whole archive. The proposed upper level could provide only Search and Make/Add to Collection features trough all included catalogues, and when you go to Develop a smaller catalogue is opened and you work as usual. Included catalogues in Library could look like folders with some special mark. Other modules of LR if entered from "upper" level should work only with collections made in this level. To my mind, it could be useful.

Many of us would like to see some mechanism whereby the user could have multiple catalogs and have several open at once.  In order for Lightroom  to be able to do this, the underlying database would have to undergo significant redesign and I doubt the current database engine, SQLite, is robust enough to support this.

Oracle or MS SQL, yes.  These releational databases can support multiple instances, interlinked tables, common tables, etc.

My image arachive is currently 12.6TB; my single catalog is 27.4GB.  Having multiple catalogs under Lightroom as it is currently architected would be onerous as I keep the presets with the catalog.  Much duplication of those presets unless I indexed them somehow to know which catalog had which presets associated with it.  Not an easy chore, methinks.

With Oracle as its DB engine, multiple catalogs would be a snap, and they could be referential to a common catalog of presets, another of keyword lists, another of Smart Collections, etc., etc.  And most importantly, one would be able to search and find any image in any catalog, and perform standard move and/or copy functions.

All a dream...
