Lightroom Classic: Can't import new photos via synchronize folder
This has been an on-going problem for quite a while, before Classic. I have added new photos (outside Lightroom) into a folder. Then in Lightroom right clicked and synchronize folder. LR duly detects new photos and prompts to import. I then click to import but then the system either crashes or the prompt just goes around and around. I have left it for well over an an hour on occasions.
I can import the usual way no problem.
One thing that I should point out. This folder contains over 10,000 phone photos. My theory is that for some reason this is causing / contributing to the issue... just a thought.
I have not tried with other folders (i just thought of doing that as I typed)

I can therefore import the new photos no problem and then go to synchronize to double check that I have not missed any. But instead of it being a 1 step process its now 2.

I tried to reproduce your issue, but synchronise works fine for me. If Lightroom crashes once again, please submit the crash report, along with your adobe ID in the comments section.
Thanks,
Pavan,

It usually just freezes up. It does it every time without exception. I can video it and send it to you if this facility will allow me ?

I have tried with another folder which contained just a few photos and it worked fine. Its just the folder with 10,000 phone photos that wont import from synchronize. To recreate this at your end you need to work on a folder containing 10,000 + phone photos that are already imported and then add say another 50 photos from outside of Lightroom and see if you can import using the synchronize function.
Kind regards
Mark

An interesting update.
I tried again with the folder with 10,000 photos and once again. It just froze and did not respond. Then I re-started and tried again and unchecked the "show import dialog before importing" option and it successfully import !

"Synchronize" 50 new photos in a folder of 10,000: then Lightroom has to compare Filename, filesize, capture date of each of the 50 photos with each of the 10,000 photos. (ie 500,000 compare operations)
If you "Import" the 50 new photos- YOU simply decide the 50 to import. No CPU activity to compare photos.
I can imagine which process would be quicker!
