Lightroom Classic: Cannot move photos to bin(ex Trash) on MacOS Catalina

In MacOS Catalina, Apple renamed Trash to Bin! Since then when removing a photo, it cannot move to Trash, the only option you have is to permanently delete.

Thanks for reporting.
What happens when you select "Delete from Disk?"

I am not able to reproduce the issue.

Thanks,
Sunil

Hi,

I choose, remove photo and then delete from disk. At that point it says

"The files are on a volume that does not support Trash. Would you like to permanently delete item?"

And that it is the only possibility.

Mehtap,
It could be a problem with the file permission.
We are not able to see the issue with all files.

Could you please verify the file permission?
Right-click the file you want to delete from Finder and select Get Info > Sharing & Permission.
Do you see read/write permission for the account with which you currently logged in?

Thanks,
Sunil

Hi Sunil,

The file permissions are okay. However, my photos are in a directory on the iCloud Drive.

Lightroom seems to complain about the Volume.

Kind regards
Mehtap

That's how iCloud drive works.

Oh, thanks. Interesting because until Catalina, I did not have this behaviour.

Wonder if it's a Catalina bug. Another user reported a similar problem back in June (near the top, search for 'trash' or 'icloud'): https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-catalina-10-15-bugs-and-bug-fixes.2183833/page-7

Thanks but I couldn't find what you are referring to.

I'm having the same problem deleting a photo in LR Classic that's stored in the iCloud.  Message says " These files are on a volume that does not support Trash".  I have no problem deleting files on iCloud in other apps (i.e. Photo, etc)

Mehtap,
Please see if you are able to delete a photo that's in your local drive.

Thanks,
Sunil

Hi Sunil I am not sure that I understand the part you refer to. Which bug and resolution exactly?

"In MacOS Catalina, Apple renamed Trash to Bin!"

For reference by future readers: Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) renamed Trash to Bin for the UK, and it may have renamed it to Bin for Australia in 10.14.  It remains "Trash" in the US:

I tried to move photos to Trash in Adobe Bridge. There is no problem there. I do not think that this is Catalina bug, but a bug in the Lightroom Classic.

I have same problem since upgrading to macOS Catalina and migrating my documents folder containing Lightroom image folders to iCloud drive.  macOS Catalina 10.15.1.  Lightroom Classic Release 9.1.

Note that if I open a specific image file in finder at this same location I can delete that file and it moves to the trash correctly.  The problem is clearly a Lightroom problem with Catalina / iCloud drive folders.

Adobe - how about confirming the problem and then a fix please?

Same problem. But if you restart the Mac, it move them to the bin fine. So you will have to restart every time for move an image file to bin in Catalina, it seems... :(

I am having the same problem is there a solution to this.  Never had a problem before I am on Catalina 10.15.3 and Lightroom Classic 9.2. Any help would be appreciated - I have no problem deleting to the trash directly from iCloud but get the message  These files are on a volume that does not support Trash.  Also images I have had in lightroom on iCloud drive for over a year gives me the same message so it is not just newly imported images.

I have the same issue. Would love any resolution anyone has come up with. Moving files to the trash as an interim step is really important because it's a backup in case i delete something accidentally.
