Lightroom CC: weird lightroom photo merge stitching error

Question

I occasionally get this type of stitching error, most notably using a fisheye lens, however this is with a 16-35mm lens at 20mm (full frame, 5DIV). Latest Lightroom Classic, up-to-date Win 10, high spec desktop. I have seen this error occasionally for the last few years too.

Note that stitching also produces a file that misses the left bit. More than that, the photos will only stitch if the boundary warp is set to zero.
