Hi Arun,

Could you please share a screen shot of the Lightroom import module with us? Here are couple of reasons why the import button might be grayed out:Thanks,
Akash

If the files are grayed out then they are already in the Catalog.
Search the catalog by the name of one of the image files using the Filter Bar > Text option.

since I basically rent out the camera, it might be due to duplicates? any other solution to prevent this as, its quite hard to rename all the photos.

If photos appearing in the import window don't have a checkbox in the upper, left corner of the miniatyr, they are allready in the Lightroom catalog. Renaming is simple, (just press F2, and choose a template or make your own to rename selcted photos) but will not bring the checkbox back. Do this:
Notice one or more file names.
Close the import Window
Go to Library, and select All photographs in the catalog panel.
Select Library Filter > Text. Choose File name, and type in a part or all of one filename, and the photos you tried to import will apear.
To locate the folder, just rightr click the photo, and choose Go to Folder in Library.

What do you mean you Rent Out the Camera?
Even if you Rent the camera to other users you should set the image file record name to Continuous. That will give a new number, XXX-000000, to every image recorded to the memory card.
LR looks for more than just the File name to determine if the file is a duplicate.
Size of file and capture time or 2 other aspects LR look for for that determination.

@Just shot ME, It was a duplicate issue, once I changed the name of the file, it worked fine.

Sometime if I shoot from 2 cameras, it might have the same file name.

Then you should change one of the camera to record the images for that camera to a different file name. Most all modern digital camera have the ability to change the first 3 or 4 character of the file name the camera will use to write images to the card.
And even if it isn't possible in the setup menu of the cameras you there are ways to get around that.
I had to do that when I have 2 Leica M8 cameras. One was set to L1xxxxxx and the other set to L2xxxxxx.
