Lightroom: Can't move files to the trash "Volume does not support trash" error on MacOS 10.10 Yosemite
Please help me return LR to its former functionality (worked for years!) so I can move files to the trash. Instead, this message pops up: "the photos are on a volume does not support Trash". I've been in touch with Rob Sylvan at KelbyOne who helped me with a series of suggested steps but nothing has helped. So I turn to you. Would you like the list of steps?

Often something as simple as trashing something on the same drive (e.g. an empty folder) can solve it.

1.
- Create a folder in the external drive
- Then commmand-delete to move that folder to trash.
- Go back to Lightroom and try deleting those files again.
2.
1. Create a Folder anywhere in Lightroom. (On the affected EHD)
2. Select "Show in Finder" in LR. (Verify the folder creation)
3. Delete the folder in Lightroom. (Notice that the folder deletes from LR, but not the Finder.)
4. Delete the folder in the Finder. (Command⌘+Delete)
5. Return to LR.
6. Delete photo(s) as desired.
The workaround will/should stick until a restart is performed.
3. Replace the Lightroom preference file:
http://lightroomers.com/replacing-the...
4.
1. Macintosh HD>>Library>>Application Support>>Adobe
2. Right click on "Adobe" folder, choose "Get Info".
3. In "Sharing and Permissions" section, add your user account if it is not already listed.
4. Change permissions to "read and write"
5. Click the gear icon at the bottom and choose "apply to enclosed items."
6. Close info window
1. Return to finder, click "Go" menu and type "~/Library
2. Find the "Adobe" folder and repeat steps 2-6 above

Try creating a new Admin user account and try the troubleshooting steps again from the new user account to see if the problem goes away: http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/201...

I'm running 10.10.2 and using LR 5.7. See attached screen shots.

Deleting an newly empty folder on the external drive worked for me, and restored normal functionality. I'm using an external drive that always supported trash, until recent deletions a week ago emptied that folder, and the "does not support trash" error message started. Now it is back to normal. Thanks Victoria! ;)
