Lightroom: Better Image Size Control in HTML Galleries
In the Web module there is only one "Size" slider for the image size in the "Appearance" panel (HTML Gallery).
It should be possible to put in sizes for horizontal and vertical extent separately.
With just one size, one has the choice between images in landscape being too small or images in portrait orientation not fitting a single page (requiring scrolling).
I'd love to limit the vertical size so that it fits most screens but let images in landscape orientation be shown at a larger size.

The third-party galleries cost money, don't they? Are they HTML-based? Many are Flash-based, technology I'd like to avoid for several reasons (not iPhone/iPad compatible, for instance).
I don't need a gallery with lots of bells and whistles, just something basic to present a set of images would be good.
I think LR should provide a basic HTML gallery out of the box. Currently, I feel that it is severely limited by the single "size" control. Why include a gallery in the first place that has such a limitation?
Are you aware of any documentation of how I could create my own galleries in LR? I'm more than comfortable with programming, so with the appropriate documentation (which I presume the third-party developers have access to), I could perhaps extend the existing gallery or create a new one from scratch?

If you want to try editing yourself, then yes, there's documentation available on the web engine. Here's the SDK: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/photoshop...
And links to a few other tutorials too: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjourn...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice have built-in, but at least there are options available if the engineers are tied up with other priorities.

I had a quick look at the SDK (I thought it dealt with non-web plugins only) and provided that the supplied sample web gallery is pretty much what is part of LR per default, I should be done in no time. The two variables (width & height) already exist and it should be just a matter of introducing a new slider to be able to control them independently (currently they receive the same value from the single slider). Should be a piece of cake.
Thanks again for the hints!

My tweak wasn't complete -- the previewing is a bit rough now -- but I only wanted to control the image dimensions for the final output and that's now possible. Below, is the "proof". :)
