Lightroom: Add ability to switch to sidecar jpeg file.

Add ability to switch to sidecar jpeg file. Sometimes camera-corrected jpeg is good enough (when shooting in RAW+JPEG mode) and ability to just switch to jpeg will save time.

PS: treating jpegs as separate files clutters photo library.

Good idea, although I'd prefer a solution with a little more "reach", since the separate raw/jpeg's are not the only set of related photos that are a challenge to manage -

You have to read down a-ways since this Idea evolved since inception:

I think it's important we differentiate between managing of related photos and dealing with multiple sources of the same photo.

For this feature to be really usable only a simple keyboard shortcut to switch between sources is needed. Anything more will slow you down. In case of RAW+JPEG only one source is "always" chosen, because jpeg is exactly the same photo that was already corrected by the camera (will always have exactly the same tags etc.) and cases where both sources are needed are extremely rare, if any at all.

I think that suggestions in the thread you linked are fairly good, although it may be better to break them down to simpler feature requests as they might have better chance of being implemented.

I suppose one could think of the camera-rendered jpeg as a master or a derivative, depending on point of view. I shoot raw-only, and so think of the manufacturer rendered jpeg as a derivative (whether rendered by camera firmware or desktop software equivalent), and so see this as a more general problem. But, I can see if you shoot raw+jpeg you may have a different perspective... Bottom-line - I'm for improved handling of raw & jpeg versions of same photo, and hopefully other relationships too...

I agree that camera-rendered jpeg is a derivative. Sometimes (especially when time is scarce resource) that derivative is good enough and I just wish for ability to choose it instead of master - raw file.

I hear ya. I shot raw+jpeg for a long time, and quickly realized that I needed to separate them in order to maintain the flexibility I wanted. But that has the shortcoming you mentioned at the start of this thread. I'd definitely like to see some improved handling of this.

On general better handling of related files, I posted my thoughts in the thread you linked earlier. I tried to break down the issue, although I probably missed some things x)
