Lightroom 5.4 catalog issue between 10.8.6 and 10.9.1

Are you sure you're opening the same catalog? One catalog has a 2014 year folder (and an "Other Stuff" folder), the other doesn't....which tends to suggest one catalog is an older version. Could you check?

Same Catalog. That seems part of the issue. I tried to sync the parent folder to find the 2104 folder, and after quite a long time of watching the progress bar tick along, nothing new is found - not even the 2014 folder. None of the other folder image counts are updated either as the screen cap illustrates. The sync does find some (expected) errors about incompatibility with some files and a few other minor things. So 5.3 is actually "seeing" all the thousands of images, just not updating the list.

The catalog (.lrcat), for what it's worth, is 1.22GB, there's also 7.5GB is previews (.lrdata).

I've read about other anomalies with this app and OS configuration regarding sliders looking different, etc. Is this somehow related?

The different photo counts issue could be due to having a different setting for the Library menu>Show Photos in Subfolders option, i.e. checked under the 10.8.6 system, unchecked under the Mavericks system. Make sure the setting is the same under both systems then see how things look.

However, that wouldn't explain the 2014 and Other Stuff folders not appearing in the Mavericks version. To be honest, because of that I'm really not sure how those two screenshots could be of the same catalog, so could I ask for two further screenshots. In each OS, open the catalog and take a screenshot of the General Tab of the Catalog Settings (under the Lightroom menu). This will show the full name and file path of the catalog and may help shed some light on this mystery.

The issue regarding sliders looking different is a mavericks issue affecting all versions of Lightroom before 5.2. So no, it doesn't have any bearing on this problem with 5.3.

I had to wait a bit to be able to boot back into 10.8, which I did. Took lots of screenshots, then back to 10.9. Took lots of screenshots there two and then decided to check Photos > Show Photos in Subfolders option. It was unchecked. Checking it, of course, solved the issue.

I so, so rarely need to look at anything in the top menu bar in Lightroom, I don't even think to check there for much of anything once I set up my Library View Options back in Lightroom 2(probably). Though I wonder why that menu item check isn't saved in the apps preferences - it doesn't seem like an OS update would effect that one option.

Who knows what else I'm missing by not exploring the top menu bar!
