LIGHTROOM 5.3: Dynamic Collections based on Title containing dash "-" no longer work
Hi,
I just upgraded to Lightroom 5.3 (coming from 4.4).
Everything seems to work fine except for one little issue that annoys me a lot.
I give titles to my photos and some of these titles contain dash "-" (e.g. "week-end").
Based on these titles I create dynamic collections to group photos sharing the same title (+ other criteria).
When the title does not contain dash "-", it works like a charm but when it contains a dash "-", the dynamic collection does not find any corresponding photo.
In Lightroom 4.4 it worked perfectly.
Thanks for your support!
Best regards,
Arnauld Le Carbonnier.

Thanks for your answer.
Here is a link to 2 Dynamic Collections: one that works "OK" and one that does not "KO":

I appreciate your feedback!

I took your smart collection definition for a spin (KO). It did work for me after a bit of massaging ( and of course manually assigning matching metadata, since I didn't have your photos to go with it ).
I don't know what changed in Lr5 vs. Lr4.4 in this regard, so I can't comment about that. What I can say is that Lr has some bugs in metadata handling, and those combined with operator mis-understanding/error (and changed handling / new bugs from version to version) can really make for some confusion.
That said, one of the things that can really foul things up is mis-understanding how spaces "work" (or "don't work", depending on your perspective).
Not sure what to say, except as a work-around, I'd consider using AnyFilter (or SpaceUrchin) since they handle space and other characters (including '-' no doubt) correctly. Also, SmartColluder may help you to debug your smart collections.
If you want, please post a link to an xmp file that I could use to assign title metadata to a photo which "should" match the previous KO.lrsmcol smart collection rules. That way, I could corroborate a bug, or whatever...

I just discovered that after updating the metadata on a photo, it miraculously appeared on one of the "KO" Dynamic Collections.
After that, I decided to update the metadata for all the photos of my catalog (it took a while) and now everything seems to be back in order.
Lesson learned: after upgrading a version, try update the metadata!
Anyway thanks for your support.
