Lightroom 5: The exported file path can't contain special Symbol '='

Error pop-up on export:
The exported file path can't contain special Symbol '='

I see this error since I upgraded to LR 5.5 from 3.x

Now why should that be a problem on the Windows OS? A '=' is perfectly OK as part of a folder name. Actually my workflow automation depends on this naming convention.

It's a real nuisance to export to a "dummy" folder and then move the images again. I would really appreciate the V3 functionality aka a fix.

Got the same issue. Really annoying as everything worked since LR 1, now suddenly LR 5.5 cries about the special sign.

SOLVED!

I have upgraded in the meantime to LR5.6. By coincidence I just discovered the solution:

got to edit - preferences, File Handling tab
3rd group from top: File Name Generation
select the character set NOT containing the '=' character
click OK

bingo! it works!

CAVEAT: If you already hat that character set selected as your preference LR "doesn't get it". I had to switch to the other choice, save, switch back and save again. That's why I realize this fix only now.

Thanks Adobe!

I have the same problem. I like to name some folders with the sign = to make them appear on the top. Never had this problem before in ANY app. The above setting didn't solve my problem though

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LIGHTROOM - The exported file path can't contain special symbol '='.

Lightroom from version 5.5 to the current version 6 and CC still has the same problem. When you export photos in the folder "data/=top=/photo/" can not save the photo, pop up message - The exported file path can't contain special symbol '='. If you give the option to choose a directory later, then will export the directory without problems . Absolutely do not understand that in this directory Catalog works, but not export photos. In Preferences I set the '=' character was allowed. the problem is both PC and MAC.

Looks like the input validation of a newly specified path is (still or again) broken. A previously used path however does work.
Actually this leads to an alternative workaround when you do not want to use "choose directory later":
When you get the error just retry with "File - Export with Previous". This should export to a path containing a "=" without error.
Anyway, a unnecessary nuisance which needs to be fixed!

I confirmed the same symptoms on my CC 2015.4 / OS X 10.11.2.   Trying to do an export with Export To: Specific Folder fails if you choose a folder name with an "=", even if the option Preferences > File Handling > Treat The Following Characters As Illegal is set to "/ :".  Changing the option to the larger set and back again had no effect for me.

To expand on the workarounds to the bug:

- If this is a one-off export, use the Export To: Choose Folder Later option.  About the same number of clicks.

- If this is an export to be repeated many times, save the settings as a user preset, and then export using that preset.

- If this is an export to be repeated many times, after the first export fails, do File > Export With Previous.
