Solved
Lightroom 4.2 import problems
Running windows 7
Upgraded lightroom to the beta 4.2 version as this now offers support for the Sony RX100 Raw files.
However, since upgrading, Lightroom recognises the camera and the I get a preview of the pictures on the camera (sony rx100), but even if I leave the import process for an hour or so, nothing ever gets imported.
I tried 4.2 on both my home pc & lap top and get the same problem on both machines. I'm able to manually move the photos using windows and then sychronise the folder to lightroom successfully, I just can't use lightroom to move the pictures directly from the camera.
Any suggestions?

So after my post this morning, I found that it import process was doing something, so I let it run all day (just finished 8hrs later for just over 1gb of data) and when it finished i got the error message below and not pictures were successfully imported.
I'll see if i can try it with a different memory card & usb cable too and post back

We tried import directly from camera, with a mix of jpeg, raw and video files, and had no problems.
Do you have a second card? I'd like to have you take a freshly formatted card, shoot just a few jpegs, raws and videos, and try the import. If that works, then we can narrow the problem down to something on the card, and rule out the camera connection.
Thanks,
Becky

So I tried a different card with a jpg and that worked. I tried raw and 4.1 rejected it (unsupported). So I upgraded back to 4.2 and it then imported. I then took a mixture of video, jpg & raw and all imported.
Reformatted the original card and a few tests show it to be working now. I'll post back in a few days to see if the quantity of files being transferred makes a difference.
Thanks for the help & responses thus far.

If I take it to a different computer, no problems. Just installed 4.2 and no change.
Have Sony A77 & A550. Using Vista.
