Perhaps just a little more explanation..., eh? -
Which OS, what you did, what you expected to happen, what actually happened...
2nd monitor works fine for me (win7/64) via F11 key, but I don't use it, since it provides insufficient added value to me. Note: Beware of F-Lock key...
I extend left panel onto left monitor instead, which maximizes size of image under development.

In Develop mode, going to a photo that was already dealt with and thus has a list of developing steps registered for it, the Second Monitor displays the status of the photo corresponding to the last developing step it was left at. When jumping/switching to any other registered developing step in the list for the photo the Second Monitor doesn't respond. - It stays stuck.
In some instances, going to a photo, the Second Monitor doesn't display anything but a message to the effect that "no photo was selected".
My system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, I have two CPU chips, each has 4 physical CPUs, which forms a total of 16 "Virtual" CPU units. I have RAM of 24 GB ECC memory, and two hard disks configured separately for the system/software and for the user (my) data.
I am used to work routinely with a second monitor dedicated completely to show (just) the "patient" photo, while the first monitor is free to show the panels, in particular the sliders in a big enough size to be convenient to work with. In addition, in local adjustments, it is very useful/efficient to follow the actual resulting effects on the Second Monitor, while the first monitor is dedicated to display the currently selected local area and to the manipulation of it (further selecting or erasing).
