Lightroom 4.1 now available on labs.adobe.com

Thanks for everyone's patience and feedback on the Lightroom 4.0 release. As noted in last week's blog post we've identified several issues with this initial release including a few conditions where performance slowdowns could occur.

Lightroom 4.1 is now available on Adobe Labs:

Includes bug fixes for several top issues and includes 5D Mk III support:

Good to hear. Lr4 is really awesome, when it's performing properly.

PS - How's that SDK coming along? Please don't forget to include support for all data types in custom metadata, especially numeric. - thanks.

The guys are working on it. Don't have an eta. I can check with them when I'm back in the office. Getting caught up from dealing with a sick kid.

Thanks for the news of an update later this week. That's really helpful. Much respect to you and the team for your hard work.

Though the "performance issues" are luckily not really affecting me and my rig, I'm looking forward to seeing how much faster the develop module will function. Thanks for the update Tom.

I am getting hit pretty hard with performance issues, I run a dual monitor setup as well. The performance issues are so bad it makes LR4 almost unusable. I hope it is more than just dual monitors and it comes on par w/ LR3 performance (which still wasn't great but usable).

Will 5D III RAW support make it into this release?

Performance is an issue with 4.0 but as it always was in the first main release when a new process version was introduced;

Another Question : Is there any GPU-Support planned, Nik Plugins for example are using it;
the Cores of the CPU are well used with LR even with single image processing all Cores are used, but GPU support would speed up the processing (in todays GPUS > 100-200 Cores are waiting for work :))
cheers

I'd like to see that as well, I have a $600 video card, it could really lend some horse power. Anything to speed up workflow would be a huge help. I have a lot of hardware and LR never has been fast.

That's good news, I hope that this will actually solve the issue!

I also think that GPU usage would actually allow to speed up performance significantly. I was surprised to learn these days that LR does not support that. But I'm not a developer, there might be good reasons for that.

Well I do hope you come up with a fix for the performance issue.
I'm using a trial version and my trial period is almost up before having to buy it and it's still screwing around with building a catalog of 91,000 photos one window at a time. It doesn't add the photos to the catalog unless you physically scroll each window, one at a time. There's not been any time to try other features of the software, because of trying to build a catalog. So far, no reason to actually purchase the software.

Why is the CS6 blazing fast and the LR4 so slow. Why not just use one, the fast one? Seems like a great way to go.

I talked with Julie. Yes, 5D Mark III support will be in the same build as these fixes that Tom has listed.

Will 5D Mark III support be fixed with LR3? Or will I have to upgrade to LR4 in order to use LR with RAW files from this camera?

I would not expect that LR 3.6 will receive additional updates. Support for the 5D Mark III will be limited to LR 4.x and later. To use the 5DMKIII with LR 3.x you will have to use the DNG Converter tool. See the bottom of this article; http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjourn...

Great news, well done Tom and the team.

Slight problem though, this post just cost me £100. There I was blissfully thinking that nothing in Lightroom used a GPU at all, and I read that my NIK plugins will. So I've had to splash out on a new graphics card. Oh well. Hope Lightroom itself takes advantage of it soon.

I'll second that. Being able to render 'treated' AVCHD video clips from LR4 is a very important new feature for me. It's just a shame that this process leaves your graphics card snoozing in its bed :(
