Lightroom 2015.7+: Panels and filmstrip black when switching to Develop

Not sure if this is the right place for a bug report, if not could anyone direct me to the right place please.

Clicking develop module at top right from the Library module opens the photo with film strip and both side bars black empty spaces. Initial few times I had to quit and restart Lightroom but then discovered switching to grid view again and develop keyboard short cut, everything comes back.

This should now work correctly in Lightroom CC2015.10/6.10 or later on macOS Sierra (10.12) or later. Don't hesitate to let us know if you see the issue again on the current macOS, and if you do, what triggers it.  Please update your system and let us know if you have any additional issues.

Additional information on this update can be found here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2017/04/lightroom-cc-2015-10-now-available.html

I tried to update from 2015.9 to 2015.10 but I get an error message: 5. Closing and starting Creative Cloud App and trying it again doesn't work.

Make sure your Creative Cloud App is up to date: (4.0.1.188).
Restart your computer.
Uninstall Lightroom via the App.
Reinstall Lightroom via the App.

Did that fix it?

The CC App was up to date.  I uninstalled LR and installed it via de CC App. I have now version Adobe Lightroom 1014445, but I got also an error message, that a patch failed with the question to try it again.  I have tried it again, but I still got the error message: 5

I tried it all, but again I get the same error message: 'the installation of LR is completed, but a patch has failed. I got no information about what patch. I get no version name 2015.10, but only CC 2015 [1014445]

Hi Steve,

As noted before, this is a bug introduced at the macOS level. Through collaboration with Apple, they have made a fix in the later version of the macOS update. So the right thing to do is to update to the more recent version of macOS when possible.

Having said that, Lr team have done our best to workaround this issue for the cases that we can reproduce for macOS 10.11.6. But there is a limit can Lr can do.

Hope you understand the situation.

Actually no--I don't understand this situation.  So let me get this straight--Apple has a bug in their OS that only affects Lightroom---to me, thats not a bug, thats a microscopic creature that doesn't effect anything but your software.  In other words, I don't buy you passing the buck.  Using your criteria, should I assume that it's Apples fault that your product runs so slow and seems to be aggravating more people daily? Is it Microsoft's problem too?  Just fix the problem--it's been going on for way to long.

From what I have read in the previous replies, LR still has the problem in Sierra.

Hi Steve, macOS 10.13 + Lr Classic CC (or Lr 6.13) is the best combination for the fix.

Hi David, Except in this case, Lr has no part in rearranging the Windows when the black panel bug happens. It happens transparently to Lr. You should trust the experts from Apple and Adobe in investigation the issue.

WOW Mr Chen-"You should trust the experts from Apple and Adobe in investigation the issue."  That is quite a statement to make from a company that has NOT made significant progress in dealing with this issue for I do not know how long.  There have been more than a few with that configuration or one very similar that CONTINUE to have these issues.  PLEASE do not throw the expert card out unless your companies willing to step up and resolve these EXTREMELY long standing issues that have crossed over multiple OS and LR updates that never quite fix it.  THAT is very disingenuous of you.

I never had any blackouts when I was using LR 6. The stand alone product.  This seems to start when Adobe went to LR CC.

Hi all,

As Simon and Jeff have already mentioned in this thread, please make sure your macOS is updated to at least macOS Sierra 10.12 and at least Lightroom Classic 7.0 or Lightroom 6.13.

The best combo to avoid this issue is being on macOS High Sierra 10.13 and Lightroom Classic 7.1 or Lightroom 6.13.

The team has worked pretty hard with Apple to get this issue to stop appearing with macOS Sierra 10.12 and macOS High Sierra 10.13. Improvements were made in 10.12 and iterated upon for 10.13.

If you are on macOS High Sierra 10.13 and Lightroom Classic 7.1 or Lightroom 6.13 and you still see this issue, please let us know here with a copy of the System Info from your Lightroom product (Help > System Info > Copy).

Thanks,
Melissa

Such a cop out! I haven't upgraded so you can say this! El Capitan is not that old of an OS to not be supported!!! Do your job and fix something that has been happening for over a year and half! Don't act like it is something new that all of sudden it will be fixed because of some other companies system. This has gone on WAY TOO LONG!!!!! Fix it!!

I'm not able to reproduce this issue. Have you tried restarting the computer after the update to Sierra? It may help if we could see your Lightroom System Info. Launch Lightroom, and select Help > System Info... and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Happens all the time with me - several times a day. Sierra 10.12.2, MBP,  Lr CC 2015.8. I have to restart Lr in order to restore panels. cmgap

I can reproduce it again and again. Here is the Help>system info.
Use graphics processor has been disabled as there was a conflict between Yosemite and my particular iMac's AMD video card with Lightroom.
I did restart, I will do so again.
Not sure if I should reinstall Lightroom after the Sierra install, maybe if nothing else helps?

Thanks Jeffrey.
I quit all apps and restarted the iMac and Lightroom, it seem to have sorted it. The panels' control sliders and the filmstrip thumbnails are back in develop module.

I am seeing this with LRCC2015.8 too.  I am forced to restart LR to get my side panels back.  It seems to happen when the app is in Develop as a background task  for a long period of tim (for me it was overnight)   I suspect a memory leak.   When I return to LR I fin the side panels missing.  Using the keyboard to switch modules does not refresh the side panels (even though the side panels are different panels for the left and right panels.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom: Only center pane visible.

Occasionally, for some reason I haven't been able to figure out and
therefore can't reliably replicate, all of Lightroom's user interface panes except the center one disappear.  Some input of mine obviously is causing this; it doesn't happen spontaneously.  I haven't inadvertently set the application into Lights Out mode or hidden one or more of the control panels: it's just that everything is blacked-out except the center of the display.  I am unable to escape from this funny state using any of the interface-recovery methods I'm familiar with.  The only way I've found to restore the display to its normal state is to kill and relaunch the Lightroom process.  Bug?  Cockpit error on my part?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Blackout.

have i found a bug in 2015.2 ? i’ve been working in the print module and every time i hit the print button the whole background and side panels black out completely...the one workaround i
have found is by minimizing the window and then bringing it back again – hardly high tech ! any other reports of anything similar ?
later on - this bug is now happening all the time , ie whenever i click to change eg from one module to another.

This intermittent issue has been confirmed by the Lightroom QE team.

To workaround this issue, hit Cmd + H to hide Lightroom and Cmd + Tab to bring it back.

If you're hitting this often, you can roll back to a prior update. Instructions are here https://www.lightroomqueen.com/roll-back-update-previous/

If you're seeing it frequently, it's very easy to roll back https://www.lightroomqueen.com/roll-b...

But before you do, if you are seeing this consistently, and if you are using GPU acceleration (Preferences>Performance>Use Graphics Processor), you might try disabling it and see if the problem resolves.  Just a hunch, but I don't ever experience this behavior on my MacBook Air, where I haven't enabled GPU acceleration, and I see it frequently but intermittently and unpredictably on my Mac Pro, where I do use the GPU.  My gut tells me there might be some sort of race condition developing between threads running on two different processors that are responsible for painting the screen.  (This is purely a WAG: I have no knowledge of Lightroom's internals.)
