Lightroom 2015.2: Hangs on quit

Happens every time I try and quit. Worked fine prior to the 2015.2 update. It just freezes and requires I force quit. If I start a new empty catalog, it will quit fine. Tested integrity of original catalog and no issues. This is running on a 2014 iMac 5k with OS X El Capitan.

This issue should be corrected by the Lightroom CC 2015.3/6.3 update.

I have the latest upgrades - and since upgrading the Mac to El Capitan the Lightroom APP hangs - consistently - on Quit when check catalog integrity is checked. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have created a new catalog and imported the old catalog. Still hangs.

Joe, if you go to Help>System Info, what version of Lightroom is currently installed?

Lightroom version: CC 2015.5 [ 1067055 ] It's the latest I could download and update from my CC Cloud subscription.

Joe,

Exit Lightroom
Hold down [Opt]+[Shift] and relaunch Lightroom.
Overwrite the preferences when prompted.

Does it still hang?

NO! Problem solved! Thanks so much. I was really becoming concerned for the "integrity" of my catalogs! Thanks.

Not only have the screwed up the Import Panel for Professionals, but they have turned the product into t boat anchor for the time being.
How can an "Update" to a perfectly good product that turns it into useless and inoperable code be an improvement?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Cannot close LightRoom CC.

Windows 10 - since the recent update LR CC will not close normally. Even when exited the programme remains in memory using zero CPU but between 2-3gb of RAM. The only way to completely close LR is via the Task Manager?

Adobe employee Becky Sowada suggests resetting your preferences. Note that the Adobe.com help article she referenced contains incorrect and out-of-date instructions that simply won't work on Mac. See this article for correct instructions: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showth...

It worked for me on a Mac by quitting and holding down Alt + Shift and choosing yes to reset.

Jon, along with the reset of preferences, you might try updating to Lightroom 2015.2.1, released this morning. More details here: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjourn...

Thanks,
Becky

OK, finally Lightroom is Quitting properly again BUT it was a weird fix for me on the Mac. I reset the preferences (holding down SHIFT and ALT and starting Lightroom) and choose YES. Tried Quit from the menu - same problem. Force exited and started Lightroom again and tried quitting by closing the window. Yes!!! Now it quits properly and seems to work fine, i.e. quitting from the menu works.

Might have been a total fluke but at least the problem is gone.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LightRoom 2015.2 hanging on exit on Windows 7.

I've noticed another bug in the 2015.2 release of LR.

When I exit LR via File / Exit it exits cleanly. When I exit LR via the big red cross in the top right, the program disappears from my screen but remains in Task Manager.

I have to Terminate the application with Task Mangler to get it to exit.

Same problem, but no solution yet.
Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. LR 6.2.1 is installed, preferences cleaned up. Quiting via menu or just closing the windows doesn't change anything.
It seems that this issue depends on the cataloge. One old cataloge of mine doesn't show this problem.
By the way: To save preferences, I have to open my old cataloge, which works fine, and set the preferences. Otherwise changes won't be written to disk, because the lightroom.exe process is still running.
Nevertheless, I will stick to 6.2.1

OS X 10.11 El Capitan
LR 6.2.1
iMac 27" late 2012
i7 Intel
32GB RAM 2GB Display RAM

I still have to use 'Force Quit' to exit this program. Lightroom 6.2.1 is still crashing on exit (Mac) regardless of whether you skip the backup or not. If backed up, the screen disappears as expected, but Lightroom is still 'live'. E.G. If you try and run it nothing happens because it is still running (hung) or in fact not responding. I have tried rebooting the computer to no avail.

If you exit by skipping the back-up, the beach ball spins for ever and a forced shutdown indicates that Lightroom is not responding. Come on Adobe, sharpen up your act!!

I have since reset the preferences which has provided a solution. This alone might provide a clue to a fix in the next update, even if that fix was resetting the preferences by default during an update.

I was on the phone with Adobe support, obviously in India, for almost an hour while I had to do s omen ridiculous steps in order to do screen sharing with the rep, to no avail since it was not even compatible with El Capitan (OS X 10.11), and then the rep was essentially asking me to do his debugging work by asking me "reset your cache log" as if I knew or cared to understand the mechanisms behind the scenes with a functioning copy of Lightroom.

Your best solution is to forget about any new "features" the upgrade brings, possibly the worse ever offered prematurely by any software vendor, and return to using the previous version of Lightroom before the upgrade...LR 6.1.1.
I pleaded with the rep to just give me the link to the download for the previous version, but to no avail and hung up.

Below is the link for LR 6.1 and the patch to bring it to 6.1.1.
Forget about using the "new and improved" until they restore the input panel functionality and fix the bugs...your photos will not suffer and you can continue to do your work as you have in the past.
Otherwise I am seriously looking at a working and stable product to use in Phase One Capture One Pro.

J.T. Your comment is irrelevant to this post as I found a solution that is also mentioned elsewhere. I have LR 6.2.1 running now with no problems.

Thats fine if you like many plug ins no longer working, and the abysmal new Input Panel interface changes.
Tis better to be patient, run the older stable version, than to run into a train wreck and then looking for solutions.

I am running 2015-2.1 which came today for me, but I have had the problem for a few days (probably since last update 4 days ago).

When I close Lightroom it becomes a background process that just sits there. If I then try to start Lightroom I see nothing, but a second background process appears. I can only run Lightroom again if I first kill these processes and then start it.

When Lightroom starts it appears to have forgotten some previous actions (I assume when closed it failed to store them). For example it does not come back to the photo I was working on and when I close it it asks me to do the periodic backup, even though I have actually done that already today.

The solution for me was to reset the Lightroom preferences file. Now I have done that Lightroom closes down completely.

It looks like a corruption in the preferences file is causing Lightroom to hang when it is trying to update the file as it closes.

Unless you insist on the running get new version with the crippled Input panel interface, your best bet is to downgrade to LR6.1 and apply the patch and forget about LR6.2.
Its like beating a dead horse. Plugins don't work with 6.2 and what it is the advantage of the upgrade considering all the headaches it has caused a majority of users.
Here are the links to all the LR downloads that Adobe refuses to make easy to find.

Which plug-ins are you having trouble with John? And on which OS?

All On 1 Perfect suite will not function with LR6.2 or LR6.2.1 under Yosemite or El Capitan and they have acknowledged the problem.
Nik Collection may have issues, but have released an update.
If LR is Mission Critical to your Photography work, there is absolutely no reason to upgrade with all the problems it has generated in addition to the newly crippled Import Panel.
If running only the latest software upgrade is your goals despite its flaws, go ahead, but I don't understand that approach

This is what I received from Adobe and it works

Please follow the below steps.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences.
Click on the General tab
Uncheck “Show ‘Add Photos’ Screen”
Click on Presets Tab
Disable Apply auto tone adjustments
Restart Lightroom

This worked for me too. "Apply auto tone adjustments" was already off, so it just came down to the "Show Add Photos Screen" option. Funny that import options would affect closing the catalog!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom 2015.2.1: Will not quit - Force Quit Required - Looks like a Memory Car....

LightRoom 2015.2.1 will not quit - Force Quit Required
Mac OS X 10.10.5

If a memory card is mounted when I start LR, LR will NOT quit without a Force Quit.
If a memory card is mounted when I start LR, then the card is ejected (with LR still running), LR will still not quit without a Force Quit.
If NO memory card is mounted when I start LR, then I insert a memory card, LR will not quit without a force quit without a force quit even if the card is ejected before attempting to quit LR.
The only successful way to get LR 2015.2.1 to start and quit normally is to NOT have ANY memory cards mounted.
