Library filter metadata columns Location, Country, State/Province, and City should allow for sort order control

When filtering on location-related metadata in a library filter, the Location, Country, State / Province, and City columns do not allow for changing the sort order.

I've noticed that even though sort order control is not available on Location-related columns, the sort order seems to be affected by the residual sort order on the column.  For example...

  • Click All Photographs in the Catalog panel
  • Enable the Library Filter (CTRL + L or \ or Library > Enable Filters)
  • Click Metadata to enable filtering on Metadata
  • Click the drop-down menu at the right-side of a metadata column, and choose Add Column
  • Change the metadata to filter in the new column to Location.
  • Take note of the order in which Location values are sorted.
  • Change the column to Date.
  • Change the sort order from Ascending to Descending, or vice versa. (i.e.: the opposite of whatever it was).
  • Change the column back to Location.
  • Note that the order in which Location values are sorted is opposite to what it had been previously.

It would be nice to control the sort order of Location-related columns directly, without having to temporarily change the column to Date as a workaround.

Sorting by date must do this via the Sort field at the bottom of the grid. The filter only making the selections.

No, there is a sorting option in the filter:

The OP seems to know that after setting Date and choosing Descending, you can switch to another field which doesn't have the sort option. I've always thought it was a bug that LR would then sort that field in descending order:

These are only the items that are sorted either in increasing mode or in descending mode, but the images in the grid are sorted according to the sort order designated at the bottom of the grid.
It's very logical, the filter is a way to select the images presented in the grid, then you have to sort these images in the grid according to what you want!

I understand about sorting the results using the drop down on the toolbar.  That is not what I am wanting to do.

Yes, either location-related metadata columns should always sort in ascending order, or the ability to choose between ascending and descending should be added to location-related metadata columns.  I would prefer the latter.
