Is Catalina safe now?

I saw so many problems here and elsewhere on the net about Mac users having issues with Lightroom and Photoshop after they updated to Catalina.

I was in tech support for years, so knew not to do a major update like that right away. My current needs all center around Adobe's photography workflow and I keep those programs all updated. I have a fairly new Macbook Pro and Retina iMac with plenty of RAM in both.

Catalina has 3 updates now and Lr and Ps have had a few...What do you think?

Can you do a byte copy of your machine? So you could roll back?

Catalina 10.15.3 and PS 21.03 still have the issue of not being able to override a file (be it .png, jpeg, tiff, etc,...) It will create a new file with "copy" at the end but will not override the file. Stick with Mojave until at least this is fixed.

2 weeks ago I was working with a client who just bought a new iMac. When we started it up it asked to update to Catalina so we did. When we tried to install the Adobe cc it would not let us. When we tried to connect to the server it wouldn’t let us. We finally had to take it back to the Apple store where they had to reformat the whole drive to reinstall Sierra. Everything works fine now... I WOULD NOT INSTALL CATALINA.

Don't do it.
PS 21 is a trainwreck on PC and Mac. Reports on Catalina are even more common. I'd wait a few more months at least.

PS 21.0.3 hasn't been a "train wreck" on my Mac with Mojave although I am not a power user of PS.

I'm glad your v21 experience has been good under Mojave.
I've been reading reports that PS v21 on Catalina comes with multiple issues when saving, if you can even get it to install and run at all.
There's so many system configurations and users out there, so perhaps these can be considered edge cases. It's hard to judge from forum activity alone. But from the many reports I've read, many people who have used Photoshop without issue previously, are having a great deal of frustration with v21 on Catalina (without any hardware changes).
That would be enough for me to avoid an OS upgrade indefinitely.

p.s. (I cannot utilise any v21 versions under Windows 7 or Windows 10. Performance is so bad it is not commercially viable. v20 is unaffected and performs as expected on both platforms.)

I haven’t installed Catalina yet and will not till a few more issues are fixed.  A friend of mine installed it at 15.1 and called it “Apple Vista”

Wow, so I guess the answer is no! I'll give it a few more months and check back in. I never jump on a new Apple release and I'm quite glad I didn't this time!

I installed Catalina after it was about a month old and had no problems with any apps until upgrading to LR 9.  My wife (using a 2018 maxed out MBP) began having import problems.  After an hour or so with Adobe tech support, the agent recommend rolling back to LR 8.4.1.  That fixed her problems.  The only quirk is that Macintosh HD shows up as three entries on the import page. We've begun using Finder to move photos from the card to the external hard drive.  Then just use LR's import to Add the files to LR's catalog.  I'll wait to see how LR 9.2 is reported to act before installing it on my computer since everything is working for now with Catalina 10.15.3 and LR 8,4,1.

Maybe this thread is only attracting responses from users who have had problems. I installed Catalina on my iMac Pro at the end of October 2019. I subscribe to Adobe's Photography Plan and have kept Photoshop and Lightroom updated. I have not had any problems that have impacted my workflow. Minor issues have been addressed by both Apple and Adobe updates.

Is there any newer info about this? I haven't upgraded to Catalina yet either.  I use lightroom and photoshop and wanted to wait for more info.  Any intel since this was posted 7 moths ago?

Former television producer was a semi professional photographer been shooting pictures all my life.
