IPTC - Published Date
For those of us who copyright our images with the US Copyright Office, we are required to separate our photos into unpublished and published photos. The "published" images must be submitted with their file name, title, as well as the month and year that the image was first published. At the moment it looks like even posting an image online (website, Instagram, Twitter, blog, etc.) is considered "published" (based on a couple of court cases) so we photographers need to somehow keep track of each image and when it first gets posted online. This is a real pain in the neck, but one we must comply with to ensure that our images will stand up in a copyright case. Here is the official description of the procedure: https://www.copyright.gov/eco/help/group/grpph.html
It would therefore be very helpful if Lightroom had tools to facilitate the submission process or in the very least a field in the IPTC data where we could record the month and year that an image was first published. The ideal place for this new field would be in the IPTC copyright section. I would assume that this would not be that hard to implement, but extremely helpful. I am certain that there are many of us who would benefit from this addition.Thank you for giving this consideration.
