Importing in Classic should exclude suspected duplicates by more than just filename

I only just started noticing this but it may have gone on for awhile. When I import NEW photos, I get an incomplete import unless I manually select a range of photos with the ALL selected. A tech support rep confirmed that "suspected duplicates" is only defined filename and metadata such as date or camera do not matter.  When switching between cameras, the filename can frequently be repeated over time over cameras.  Is this an improvement that is needed or should I consider a workaround to avoid losing import opportunities?

I'm not sure that rep is correct. AFAIK, Lightroom also checks the file size and the creation date, so two files with the same name from different cameras should not cause a problem. I agree it could check more.

Yep, Johan's correct, it's filename + capture time + file size.
