Folders missing from Lightroom/still in Finder

I imported photos today, and upon my first attempt, it wouldn't import. I ended up going in Finder, creating a folder (on my external drive where I keep my photos and catalog) and subfolder there, then importing them using Lightroom. After creating the folder for them in Finder (as opposed to creating it upon import in Lightroom), all of my other folders that I keep on that external drive with the catalog disappeared from Lightroom. The new folder I created is there, all by itself. The photos are not in the "All Photographs" folder. They are not listed under the parent folder (which is the name of the external hard drive). I cannot right click on the external drive name folder to synchronize. I've rebooted a few times. The image folders are all still there in Finder, as is the catalog.  I'm at a loss, can someone help?

Looks like you created and opened a brand new catalog without meaning to. It happens. Find your correct (biggest) catalog in...usually your User/Pictures/Lightroom folder and double-click it.

You say you keep your catalog on the external drive too. What probably happened is that you created that new folder, and the catalog folder somehow became a subfolder of that new folder (maybe you moved it). As a result, Lightroom could not find the catalog anymore and created a new one. That new one will probably be in your Pictures folder on the internal disk (as Carlos said, that is the default location), but that is not the one you need to find. The one you need to find and double click should still be somewhere on that external disk.

Ok I found the old catalog! I have no idea how that all happened. Thank you so much for your help. My day is off to such a better start now!
