duplicate photo removal

Is duplicate removal really that hard? Am I the only person that finds it incredible that a presumably state-of- the-art, top end professional program like LR does not have a built in way to find duplicate photos, a fairly common, and very vexing problem, when hundreds or thousands of photos are involved? I see add ons that dont work but few of them. Why cant adobe just fix this.

A professional generally doesn't allow her or his workflow to accumulate duplicates in significant numbers. That's probably why Adobe don't see it as something that needs fixing (and I can't recall that's different in any other significant DAM application ).

I agree this would be useful.  There are many ways that duplicate photos can get into the mix.  I'm talking from the perspective of a consumer (not a professional) trying to manage 10's of thousands of photos of my family from the last decade.  It would be great to have some tooling to get rid of the duplicates.
