Disable Develop Settings Overlay

I use a midi controller for speeding up the Develop workflow and there's a very annoying UI issue which constantly in my way and i see no option for disabling it.

My question... can this be disabled and if not, why not?

In the screenshot, the Blacks -9 is the issue i'm asking about. When using a midi controller, every single adjustment you make to an image in Develop flashes the change in settings for about 1.5 seconds and it's getting in the way of viewing my images...

even more annoying is how off-center the overlay is if you have the left-side panel hidden...

that's a vertical image, but same offset with horizontals. I know it's not a big issue, but when you look at thousands of images per day and there's no way to turn it off...

What exact version of LR are you using and is this LR Classic or the Cloud base Lightroom?

I have Never seen anything like that with any version of LR I've used.

Look on your Midi controller Settings/Preferences as there is no such setting in LR Classic to show this overlaid on the image.

This is LR Classic and the latest version (9.1), but the issue has been around for years. It's the same overlay you'll see using any kbsc in Develop... like undo.

Ok I never use , or rarely if ever use, the Undo feature. I will Step back in the history panel or Reset whatever slider I've used and I never use keyboard shortcuts to make adjustments.

yeah, they've always had issues with this overlay for some reason. Years back, if you used undo and then advanced to the next image, the overlay would never go away until you switched to the library, then back to develop. I think fixing that took 6 or 8 years from when i first reported...

This is a shame. I was considering getting a midi controller to be able to edit without the distractions of the numbers in the develop panel.

I’m one of those OCD “the volume knob must be an even number or a multiple of 5” type people, and I was hoping to use the midi controller to get away from that.

I don't know what a midi controller is so I probably don't have one.  However, in my LR/8.3 on Windows/10 computer I can get the same thing.  For example, in the Develop module, click on the word "exposure" (exposure slider in basic panel).  An overlay pops up saying I can use the +/- keys to move the slider.  Each time i click the plus or minus key I get an overlay pop up saying things like "Increase Exposure: +0.30" (only works if num lock is on).  So, the behavior you describe is not new nor does is it seem to be related to having a midi controller.  I don't see a way to turn it off.

However, if I click in the number box at the right end of an adjustment slider, then use the up/down arrows on the keyboard I get the adjustment without the pop up overlay.

You might find this video interesting.  It's a comparison between a midi controller and a product dedicated to LR edits:

This overlay is provided by the plugin managing the MIDI controller, not by LR itself. If you're using the MID2LR plugin, you can disable that overlay with the Show Status And Activity option:

John then this is something different from the overlay you get by using the Undo function?

Yes. It looks similar but is generated by the controller’s plugin.

John, do you currently use MID2LR?  If so, can you confirm that with the overlay disabled, nothing appears on screen (either from MID2LR or LR itself) when editing with a MIDI controller?  I might buy one if I can be confident I can hide the develop panel and edit images without any distracting numbers flashing on the screen.  Thanks!

I don't use MIDI2LR, though I'm very familiar with plugin development and how plugins adjust develop settings. The developer of MIDI2LR has an excellent reputation and the plugin is used by thousands of people, so I think you can have confidence in what's written in the documentation.  You could also post on the discussion forum:

Oh dang! Thanks so much John. I never imagined that a plugin could add overlays to Lr, so i didn't bother checking to see if i could override via midi2lr. Now i know!
