Constant Catalog crashes

Since updating to the new version of Lightroom as part of my Creative Cloud subscription, the catalog crashes regularly. Probably about every second or third time I use it - which can be several times in a week. This is making Lr virtually unusable and I will have to look at discontinuing with Adobe products if you cannot get it back to working reliably (as it has for 2 years before the new version).

I have no real stability problems, but I find that LR has become very slow. I had to sychronize my big image folder and it took LR a full day to do that and several new system starts.

Unfortunately your report is a little too vague to even know where to start Robert. Can you please go to Help menu > System Info and paste the contents in a reply so we can see the LR version and kind of machine you're using. And what are you doing when it crashes?

The latest crash seemed to be from a different fault. This one had an error message saying there was a problem reading from the preview cache. The problems started with the update you released at the start of November. I installed the  update and went to Antarctica where the program crashed every day. Lr had to repair the catalog after every crash. When I got back at the end of November, there was another update which seemed to fix this problem, and it worked perfectly for 2 weeks or so. Then, when I wrote to you, Lr just crashed - said it couldn't open the catalog and that it couldn't been repaired. Because (for some reason) you don't have the default set to write XMP changes to file, I lost work on 1000 images. (Why isn't this the default? Especially when working with DNG files). I've now set this to write my edits to the file and I exit and back-up Lr every 2 hours just to be sure. Even so, it now just crashed again after making a crop to an image. As I said, I've had years of perfect reliability with Lr until the latest changes. Nothing different about my system.
