What's a ".14" CS3 file, and how do I recover my work???

I saved a file in CS3, and found that it was saved as a ."14 file." I get an error message:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

That is not an extension used by any software that I know of.

You may have typed over the extension and changed it yourself - in which case you need to figure out what kind of file it really is and give it the correct extension.

I did this the other day, and the reason was that I normally date my work at the beginning, but for some reason dated it at the end that time.
So the file was named "DC Edit 4.23.14" and the software converted it to a ".14 " file (which doesn't exist).
There is no way to recover it, if that's what you did.
If you do end up finding a way, please post it.

Just change the file extension to the type it should be (PSD, JPG, TIF, etc.).

Thanks. I tried changing the extension, but that failed. It's a small project amendment, so I just have to go back to the source and start over.
