Slate: How do I deal with students needing to verify accounts via email?

No, I am a tech specialist for a school district. Last week I set up accounts for about 40-60 students (would like to add more in the future) for Adobe ID's. They are using Adobe Slate and we would also like to use Adobe Voice. The app is now asking them to verify their accounts. The students use Google Drive and do not have email addresses so they cannot verify their accounts. Can you help us so that we can continue to use these great tools in our district?

Hi David,

Both Voice and Slate do require a login, and unfortunately at this time Google accounts are not an authentication option.

The simplest solution for now would be to create a single shared "teacher" account and just use that on all devices. We know this is not ideal, but it's likely the best short term workaround.

That said, we are exploring longer term better options, and if you are willing, I'd love your input on what you'd like to see and what would work best for you and your school district.

Hello and sorry for any issues with the student workflow using Google Drive. I'm searching for the best answer for your situation and will get back to you.

Thanks,
Sasha

Hi,
My district would like to have a way to create accounts for students without the need for them to verify using an email address. This would make it easier to create accounts for our students since we do not provide them with this access at school. Also it would be great if you would allow alternative exports (e.g. Google Drive, export to camera roll etc). It would make it easier for us to save projects created with Slate or Voice to be added to our electronic portfolios. Although, saving and sharing works fine using your system.

Hi David,

We are aware of this limitation, but don't have a good option for you right now other than to have the teacher create a single login that all students share. It's not ideal, but it seems to be the best compromise at this time.

As for export, Voice does indeed export to camera roll, and Slate creates a web page the URL of which can be shared and stored as needed.

Out of interest, what type of authentication would you want per child? You mention saving to Google Drive, wouldn't that need an account and login, too?

Hi Ben,
Thank you....how long will the create links be available (years)? The students do have Google Drive accounts but they have no access to email (gmail). This is turned off for policy reasons. We would like to be able to create accounts for them that do not require email authentication. Maybe providing a way (that many app developers use) for students to just login to Slate or Voice with a Google Drive (Google +) account?

Regards,
David

Got it, so have the Google logins but no email. That's good to know. We don't have Google login yet, but this is something I'll discuss with the team.

As for how long the links will remain alive, good question, no one has ever asked me that before. Stay tuned.
