Photoshop.com: When I'm creating a user account for Photoshop.com it asks me to create a "Personal URL." What is it, and how it it used?

i need help making ancount and i dont have a personal url and they are saying i need one HELP

This is a question about Photoshop.com. When you create an account, it requests you to choose a 'Personal URL.' It's essentially a username that you select that gets used as part of a URL if you choose to share your photos on Photoshop.com.

Ok, Photoshop doesn't have accounts or personal URLs.

Are you talking about Photoshop.com?

And when it asks for a personal URL, it is asking you to MAKE a name/URL that will be your personal URL for the photoshop.com site (to share your pictures).

I am attempting to log in with my existing adobe id, but when it asks for me to extend my adobe id by creating a personal url, the submit button is not working. I have typed in a url name that is more than 3 chars and less that 32 chars. I have also checked the accept the user agreement/privacy policy check box. There is no errors or message that pop up. I have tried on IE 8 and Chrome 12.

I'm not sure how this helps me. I understand what the personal url is and what it is used for. I'm wondering why the submit button is not working and why I can't log in. I have an existing Adobe Id (I use a fair amount of Adobe tools in my software development - Flex, Flash - as3 I'm not an artist type, and others).

Oh, and I believe that I stated that I attempted to enter a valid value in the input box in the extend your Adobe Id screen.

Sorry, I wanted to try and keep all the Personal URL questions here so we'd have one FAQ on it. So the submit button does nothing and there's no error given?

I'd suggest trying some basic internet troubleshooting. You've tried multiple browsers, which is good. But also, try clearing out temporary internet cache and cookies. Also, try clearing Flash's browser cache (http://www.macromedia.com/support/doc....

Not sure this is worth it to me. If you tell me which domain photoshop.com is using to store data in my flash storage settings, I'd delete that one, but I have several flash web apps which I don't want to whack their storage (including my own developed apps).

Also, I'm not that interested in using photoshop.com, not interested enough to be told to "try some basic internet troubleshooting"...... If I wanted to, I could watch the HTTP session via fiddler, or use firebug to debug the javascript though I'm willing to bet the javascript is obsufacted and compressed.

I'm also a bit frustrated that my potential *bug* report got merge in with a general "what is this feature that I don't understand" help support area. Now I'm getting emails that don't pertain to the issue I'm having.

Since there was a get satisfaction link on the log in page I was interested in posting feedback on what could be a bug. I thought, as one developer to another, I'd try help. I know how difficult supporting multiple browsers can be and I was interested in potentially helping out. Instead I've been moved to thread that I am not interested in and diverges from my original goal: solving my problem and/or helping your team.

After developing 50 some web applications since 1996, I'm not that excited about getting lumped in with the group of people that get the "try deleting your cache" response.

Hum... it also looks like one of my email replies is not posted here.

I was able to post a comment/feedback to get satisfaction because I have a get satisfaction log-in. I previously used get satisfaction to support my own products.

In an effort to help: I was just able to log in (with out clearing anything) using Chrome, via going straight to www.photoshop.com. I was originally trying to log-in via a "Join Group" link that my father sent me.

Now that I am logged in, the "Join Group" link does not take me to the group album.

Also, it looks like the personal url I entered was saved. When I went directly to www.photoshop.com and logged in via my adobe id, the site did not ask me to enter a URL and I am able to go directly to visualjc.photoshop.com.

So, to summarize, please try these steps to reproduce:

- Send a join group album email.
- Click the link on a web browser that is not logged in.
- You should see "create an account" page
- Instead of creating an account, click the sign in button.
- Sign in with an adobe id that is not associated with a personal URL.
- Verify that the log in dialog closes and the user is able to use photoshop.com. * This is the step that didn't work for me on both IE8/Chrome 12 - the dialog didn't close - no error message.

Also.... I just thought of this.

My dad sent the Group Album to my personal email address. My adobe id is associated with my work email address. That might be a needed step to reproduce the behavior I'm seeing.

Sorry. The merge was my bad. I jumped the gun a bit. We appreciate that you're reporting an issue. We haven't seen this issue before, so I think Brett was trying to figure out what other debugging steps you've tried. We have to start with the basics as we don't know each users skill level based on an initial post.

Thank you for the response Jeffery. I understand that your team doesn't know my technical knowledge at all. I had responded to one of your questions via "respond" in email - vs coming to getsatisfaction.com. In that email I had stated that I was a software developer and used getsatisfaction.com for my own apps - which didn't get posted here - which explains why someone would start with the "try clearing your cache". One of my favorite support *tricks* comes from Microsoft. MS would tell people who called support complaining about their mouse not working, that dust gets in the mouse port, and then would asked the person on the phone to unplug and re-plug in their mouse; instead of asking: "Did you plug in your mouse?" because 90% of the people would say they did, and would be offended, even though they had forgotten to plug in the mouse.

I'm willing to bet, if your team tries the steps above, but addes in logging into photoshop.com with an Adobe ID with a different email address than the invitation to join a group album, you'll see the behavior I was.

Anyways, back to work for me and thank you for the follow up.

It's personal, choose what you want.

If you don't want to create a Photoshop.com account, you can log in with a different account type. First, click "Sign In" at the top of the page:



Next choose "Click here if you already have a Get Satisfaction account":



Sign in with with either your existing Get Satisfaction account:



... or even Facebook, Google, Twitter, or Open ID:



If you want or need to create a Get Satisfaction account (Get Satisfaction is the software that powers this feedback forum for us) click the "Or, create a new Get Satisfaction account...":



Note: if you create a Get Satisfaction account, you won't need to specify a personal URL like you do with a Photoshop.com account.

While I have a Photoshop.com account for my family photos, I personally login and use a Get Satisfaction account for my dealings on this feedback forum.
