Photoshop: Font style size problems in CS6

The charater style is buggy sometimes it won't change the type size. e.g. 14pt will appear has 8.64pt it's very frustrating. Something which I felt would speed my process up has slowed things down.

Okay, I can finally post this:

We have made many fixes to the behavior of transformed text and they are now available in the latest release, Photoshop 14.1, which you can download RIGHT NOW. I will acknowledge, there are still a few lingering issues to resolve, but for most users, these fixes should handle their problems. We felt it was better to get a partial fix out now than a perfect fix in the future. We are still planning additional improvements for a coming release.

If you are still struggling with problems, by all means let us know so we can make sure we address them.

Thanks and enjoy!
David

Same here. Can we get any estimate when Photoshop 13 got the same update?

Thanks!

Howdy folks,

I am happy to announce that a patch for this issue in CS6 is now available for Mac (13.0.6) and Windows (13.0.1.3).

Enjoy!

David, I was on your list before about getting this patch. How do I actually get (and use) it? Thanks,

The builds you were given were RAW builds and are independent from this patch. You should be able to launch you CS6 install and update normally. If you have any problems, post a message in the prerelease forums and I'll make sure it gets addressed.

Thanks,
David

Just a couple of quick question for you:
* do you have multiple layers in your document?
* have you done a transform on any of the text in your document?
* did you run the Beta or pre-release version of Photoshop?
* also, do you have reproducible steps to reproduce this bug?

Thanks!

Also having problems. But with styles instead of sizes. Whenever I go to the drop-down menu to change a font style (italic, bold, etc.), it shows all the styles as "regular". Choosing one of the "regulars" doesn't actually do anything.

I thought nothing can beat CS5/5.5 by the amount of bugs. Adobe proved me wrong yet again.

- Photoshop 13.0 x64
- OS X 10.7.4
- 1 or 200+ layers — doesn't matter
- Didn't do any transforms
- Ran the beta, but made a complete system reinstall with disk formatting after that

- Reproducible steps:
1. Create new document
2. Choose Type tool
[2.1 Optional step: type something]
3. Go to the Character palette or the tool quickbar
4. Click on the character style drop-down menu
5. Laugh hysterically

Here is how I fixed it:
1. Saved file in CS6
2. opened in CS5
3. Everything works as expected

YAY! Now i can finish this, get paid and pay my rent!!!

Good solution. Considering that in CS6 they didn't fix any bugs CS5 had, but instead added new ones.

I'm sorry, but that is incorrect. CS6 fixed many, many bugs from older versions.
But yes, any new version of software is going to have a few new bugs to work out - that's the nature of software.

If there is some particular issue that you wanted to see changed or fixed and believe was not addressed, please create a new topic, or add your discussion to an existing topic about that issue.

I'm sure it fixed an enormous amount bugs. But it didn't fix most of the bugs I encounter. I would love to create a new topic, but there's so many bugs, I believe I will have to quit my day job in order to make time to create them.

Of course, I may be over exaggerating here. But my frustration level caused by using Adobe products (not just Photoshop) for the past 5-6 years tells me I shouldn't be objective.

If you're not objective, you're less likely to get help.
If you have a real bug, we'll try to fix it -- we really do document all the problems and try to fix them.

Chris, I've been reporting the same bugs for several years and they still haven't been fixed. So I'm not getting help regardless. Still, I haven't completely lose faith in humanity, so I might make another attempt when I have time.

My problem is most similar to Mark's issue.

Something I'm doing is creating duplicate font styles in the menu, after a day of heavy use, I literally have a dozen "Regular" and "Lights," two dozen "BoldAlt" ... your problem seems to be the closest to what I'm experiencing.

If I restart Photoshop, all the font options go back to normal, but after a half hour or so, everything has multiplied again.

Seriously, I don't have this many styles of the chosen font activated.

Having this same issue. It adds a state of each font every time you open the font dialog box. Yes, on restart of CS6 it goes back to 1 of each.

CS6
OS 10.7.5
Upgraded from CS4
No other version on the computer
Happens in all documents

i have the same two issues.

1: The font size issue. I noticed it happening when i selected multiple fonts and changed their size, they got some weird sizes. I changed them one by one and it worked then.

2: the font list duplicate issue: I have like...100 Helvetica doubles in my list.. exactly like Andrew.

PS CS 6, Lion 10.7.4
Using Font Explorer X Pro 3.1.1. (may be some cause for the duplicate font cuts issue?)

Changing them one by one defeats the purpose of this functionality don't you think?

Okay, this thread has gotten a little messy -- there are multiple issues here and it's confusing to sort 'em all out.

If you are having a problem with FONT SIZE, that is, you set the size to say 14 and it turns into 8.64, then I'm very curious about tracking down the problem. First, however, I need the following information:

What OS are you running?
What version of PS are you running?
Did you also run the Beta build?
Do you also have CS5 or 5.5 on this machine?
Can you create the problem in a new document?
Does the document have multiple layers?
Could you share the document with me?
Can you share your steps to reproduce with me?
Does it happen every time or only sometimes?

Thanks!

Mark Lee's issue was solved in a separate thread (see how much nicer it is when we keep this stuff distinct?)

Andrew Roman's bug is being tracked in another thread as well. To clear the problem, see this document: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/t... and try step #6

Hope this helps,
David

Sigh... Even Adobe posts are user-unfriendly. Could you provide links to the threads you mentioned, please? Wasted 10 minutes and still couldn't find them.

Font size due to scaling/transform issue: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

Font style change: My mistake; this was actually an email thread. No one could reproduce the exact problem you describe. That said, if you choose a font style that a given face does not support, then it will default back to "Regular" or whatever base style the font has, such as "Black" for Poplar Std or "Medium" for Orator Std.

Chris,

Can you let me know if Adobe is aware of the font size bug in CS6? If so, when will this be fixed? Photoshop CS6 is unusable to my company at this point.

For references, I'm on OS X Lion, using CS6, and getting completely incorrect font sizes - we're talking size 11font is HUGE on my canvas. Totally bogus.

The only bugs we know about are discussed here. What you're describing sounds like something else (like maybe confusing pixels with physical sizes, or having a document resolution value that you don't realize).

Howdy OJ,

If you could describe the problem you're having in detail, that would be helpful. There does seem to be an issue with transformed type that we're looking into, but if you're referring to something else, then we're going to need more information.

Thanks,
David

My issue has to do with font resizing. My dialog box for changing the font size seems to be non-responsive. It will read "14pt" and I will enter my curser into the box but neither the numbers on my keyboard nor the arrows on my keyboard will change it, but scrolling up or down with my Apple magic-mouse will change it.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Your issue belongs in a separate topic of it's own. Too much extraneous info in this one obscures the issues.

The fact that the magic-mouse is working would lead me to guess that the information is being somehow intercepted by another utility or application running on your Mac. What else do you have running, especially utilities that affect shortcuts and/or mice? I recall a similar issue caused by a third party pointer app.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for reply David. I don't have any font utilities running (except for Font Book). I don't have any other mice/shortcut utilities running.

Do you get this problem reliably? Can you demo it for me via a web-hosted connect session?

Here I come.. with the same problem with most of the people here...

After reading other's post. I think we have the same problem. Let me try to explain how to reproduce this bug.
1. Create several text layers in different pt sizes (eg. 4 text layers: 20pt, 10pt, 15pt, 28pt).
2. Select those text layers (multiple selections).
3. Go to Character palette and try to change the size to certain pt size (eg. 25pt).
4. Boom! You will find those text layers is not 25pt size, but varied randomly.

Are you guys have this problem? Is this an official bug? Please do something Adobe.

Howdy Agus,

I've tried these exact steps and cannot reproduce this or any other problem. There must be some other variable needed. What font are you using? A particular color (hex, please)? Other apps running, especially something that manages fonts? Are you getting this every time?

Thanks

Hmm.. You are right. I've tried to reproduce this bug after reading your reply and it didn't happen this time. But it did happen often and frustrating enough. Maybe you have to try to do it with PSD with hundred of text, shape, bitmap layers in it (I often work with those kind of PSD and got that problem).

To make it easier, here'a a link to a sample PSD and instruction on how to generate the bug: http://www.mediafire.com/?c7277buec7s...

Regarding other apps running, I'm using Suitcase Fusion 4 to manage font. But I believe it is not the main problem since this didn't happens in CS5.

Thanks!

Hi David,

I am assuming you guys didn't release any fix for this issue with the font size. Please let me know. Thanks!
