photoshop CS5 crashes when editing photos
My PS CS5 program crashes (locks up) after editing a series (5 -8) of jpg & RAW photos or after about 10 minutes. I tried the update editor, thinking there might be a patch, but it indicates it is up to date. I am not running any other programs and have the OS XPsp3.

And crashing is not the same thing as locking up. Which is it doing? Do you get a crash report?

I didn't know there was a difference between locking up and crashing. What PS CS5 does is freezes up and then shuts down. No report is provided.
Another issue I am having is when printing photos to my Canon Pixma Pro9500. It does not print the correct image as edited and viewed on the monitor. It comes out too dark and the colors are off. So, as a result, I am back to using my PS CS2 program.
I did uninstall CS5 and reinstalled it and downloaded the latest updates. I should take a peek to see if it working. I haven't had the time because I am in the middle of a project that requires a lot of photo editing.

Do I have a defected PS CS5 cd that causes this issue? I am at a loss as to why this is happening.

>> I do have MS XP professional Version 2002 service Pack 3.
OK, I read the first one as OS X (which is different from XP).
Yes, locking up/freezing and crashing are very, very different behaviors.
Kind of like a car that won't start versus a car that explodes.
We need to figure out if it is crashing, or just freezing.
Then we can try to find the system logs to tell us why.
What error do you get when the program closes?
What does the OS error dialog say?

(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.
While it might not solve the crashing and freezing issue, often this does and is worth a try.

I tried it (hold Alt+Control+Shift) 3 different times and no prompt appeared. Maybe I do have a defected CS5 cd.
