Photoshop 20.0.5 cannot deselect

open a photo in latest 20.0.5 (which has just installed itself) and the image has a bounding box around it as if I have selected it. I haven't selected it & I can't deselect it.
Take the quick selection tool, or the marque or any similar tool and make a selection, copy it, paste it, another layer appears with the pasted selection, but I can't deselect that selection either. I now have 2 layers, one with everything selected and one with the pasted image selected.
Also if I have a selection and I want to transform it, cmd+T doesn't select the selected area, it selects the whole image !!!
Downgrading to 20.0.4 to see if that is OK, will then know it is a bug with 20.0.5.
Nope, works great on 20.0.4, so it's a screw up with the update t0 20.0.5. Now have to figure out how to turn off auto updates...

That is probably a preference setting. If you have the Move Tool selected, then you can check 'Show Transform Controls'.

Hi Johan, Thanks for the reply, I have gone back to previous version which worked fine, now moved back to update and clicked to reset all tools & now it seems to be working.
However all my actions and brush presets have vanished !
Yes I know I should have saved them, it's not happened for years with all the updates, so you forget these things, until it's too late of course. Fortunately I can recreate the actions quite easily, didn't have a lot and not very complex ! But the brushes... Aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh. Turning off auto updates, then when it tells me there is an update, hopefully I will remember to save actions & brushes to the desktop, then do the update, then re install if necessary.
Again thanks for the reply... Normski
