Changing text size with keyboard changes my highlighted text instead of field with text-size
When I select text in Photoshop CS6, then try to change the font size via my keyboard, my text box gets edited instead of the font size box. Please help.

Could you please describe what you're doing more clearly? There are no keyboard-based controls to resize a text box, so I'm thinking your process might need tweeking.
To resize text you've already entered, you need to select the text and then either in the Character Panel or in the Options Bar, change the point size. If you're doing something else, then that's where the problem is coming from.
Now, users can transform text via Edit > Transform or CNTRL/CMD+T but that's a process that takes effect against the entire layer, not against individual streams of text. The transform workflow is merely the photographic paradigm applied to typography; it is not a substitute for resizing text.
Thanks,
David

If you want the entire text box to change, either select all of the text (click to edit the text and cmd+a), or just click/select on the text box layer itself in the Layers Panel (which will negate all special selections), then use the type tool options in the options bar to adjust the text's point size.
You can also adjust the point size of the text layer while having another tool (non-type tool) selected if you visit the Character Panel.

This is sounding like a workflow issue. Perhaps you're having a problem with your keyboard or mouse or the like. I'll follow up with an email; perhaps a quick share of your screen via the Internet will reveal the issue.
Thanks,
David

I have text, I select it, manually type in the font size and nothing happens... This is new since the update yesterday on 9-19-12.

What OS version, PS version, hardware, etc are you running? Are you running any tablets, keyboards, mice, etc which are non-standard? How about companion apps for pointing devices or anything which might take control of keyboard commands?
Thanks,
David

Happy to help. The restart of the OS fixing your problem points to an unruly application. If it happens again, please let us know and I'll try to troubleshoot it with you.
Thanks,
David

If no text is selected (that is, the type layer doesn't have focus) I CAN enter custom type sizes. But that applies to the entire type layer and I thus can't have different type sizes in a single layer. help.
