Lightroom/Camera Raw: Lens support for Canon RF 28-70 f2 (Built in Lens Profile Applied)

Embedded profiles are always supported, but apparently RF-lenses do not have embedded profiles. That means Adobe profiles should be added in some future release, but as we all know Adobe does not comment on future releases.

Canon RF lenses do have embedded profiles. That's how the R series bodies know how to do the in-camera corrections. See section 13.2 in https://downloads.canon.com/nw/camera/misc-pages/eos-r/pdf/canon_eos_r_white_paper.pdf

What I think you mean to say is that:

• The profile isn't added to the metadata.

or

• The profile is added to the metadata, but Adobe isn't using it yet.

But in the white paper Canon mentions that their DPP software can do the corrections as well, so that implies that there is at least some metadata present.

That is why things can go wrong nd you can get the wrong embedded profile: my Sony A7R III camera embeds a profile for a Sony 24-70mm lens when in reality I used a Canon 24-70mm lens with a Metabones adapter. Fortunately this profile only corrects chromatic aberration, not distortion, so it doesn't do any visible harm.

That does not mean they can't use it to correct their JPEG output, and it doesn't mean that Canon DPP cannot apply a profile by reading the lens in the metadata. Your link could be interesting in this case, but it leads to a 'Referral Denied' error.

If that is the case, why would there be EOS R and RF 24-105 F4?  I want to get EOS R and RF 28-70 F2 supported too.
