Lightroom/Camera Raw: Allow Crop Settings in Presets

I would love to be able to set "crop" presets. I am a notoriously crooked shooter, and if I could have a preset that corrected my natural tendency for crooked images it would be awesome!

You can currently sync (Develop Module) only a "Straighten Angle" from one photo to many photos. Admittedly it is not as easy as clicking on a preset but it will get the job done for many photos.

Is your rotation consistent enough to correct across many images?

How about a "match rotation" feature, kinda-like "match total exposures"(?) - obviously it would only work for pictures of the same thing...

Could be "match vertical crop, and/or horizontal crop, and/or rotation", since hand-held shots are likely to bob up & down, and side-to-side as well as changing rotation - hmmm... Maybe like auto-alignment for the purpose of HDR, except not necessarily for HDR...(?)

I voted for this FR/Idea since whether or not auto-alignment gets implemented, there would still be some value in being able to set crop (and rotate) settings in presets.

********* Addendum *********
Crop settings are among the few develop settings missing in the SDK - hopefully this will be rectified in tandem.

It would be great if Lightroom allowed me to include a crop in develop presets. I always crop my verticals and I waste a lot of time in front of clients cropping images.

I make a lot of 4x5s and it takes way to long. This would help out. Better yet, a keyboard shortcut.

There are several ways to crop many images at once today (I counted 7) . Partly prompted by several posts in this forum, I wrote a synopsis of these in a blog article last month. http://holycrop.wordpress.com/2011/07...

Perhaps one of these methods would work for you, tonguetwister?

Hey Rikk, Thanks for the link. I am familiar with most of these methods, unfortunately they do not help me much in my day to day workflow. When I'm editing a wedding for example, I'm converting some images to 4x5, but not all. They are randomly scattered throughout the shoot so any of the batch options don't work well. Being able to simply press a custom keyboard shortcut and have a 4x5 (or 5x7, etc.) would be the ultimate solution and save me s lot of time.

Or even two presses. how about pressing "R" (or "C" would make more sense) to open the crop dialog, then press "F1" for a 4x5, "F2" for a 5x7, etc. These shortcuts would only be available when the crop dialog is open. However, one key press would be better.

I guess the question I would ask is how are you determining which to crop? One at a time or selecting a group?

In my world, I have created a custom keyword set for the various print aspect ratios that can be applied via the number pad (Alt/Opt 1, 2,) etc. These keywords are 2x3, 4x5, 5x7, 11x14. Then I have a custom filter that finds all keyworded as 4x5.

Filter
Select All
Library - QD Panel -Crop Ratio - 4x5
Tweak crop as necessary

That's a pretty clever method. I crop many of my vertical images, but not all. And I crop some of my horizontal images but not most. It all comes down to the individual shot and what looks best so we're not talking about a batch action.

I guess what I really want is a keyboard shortcut, not a preset so I'm probably in the wrong thread.

I really need to be able to add a custom crop to Lightroom's develop presets so that I apply it on import.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem possible to save Crop or Aspect Ratio settings as a preset in Lightroom. Please add such a feature.

It seems somewhat inconsistent that the Synchronize dialogue offers this option, but the Preset dialogue doesn't.

My reasons are the following: I have a DSLR with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a Micro-Four-Thirds camera as a compact point and shoot. The latter has an aspect ratio of 4:3. Since I prefer 3:2, I set my camera to that aspect ratio and I would like to have the possibility to automatically crop my RAW files to that aspect ratio. Furthermore, it would be handy for me to have a 1:1 preset from time to time.

It's just a bit annoying to have to work with the Synchronize tool every time I import new RAW files from my MFT camera.

So, please add the option for Crop/Aspect ratio in the Preset dialogue as it already is in the Snychronize dialogue.

Cheers,

Timo

In ACR it would be nice to have the possibility of saving custom crop-settings. Just like the tool preset in PS.

Ok. So apparently you can't make a crop or spot removal preset in Lightroom? Why is that? :D You can synchronize but can't make a preset.....What, Why?

Still unimplemented @Lr4b.

Adobe: please implement this for Lr4-final, and *please* don't forget to support it for SDK/plugin presets too.

Does anyone know if LR4 has this? I didn't find it yet :( Really wish they would have added this...important to my workflow when shooting events and printing 5x7...my fullframe jpgs need to be cropped as they import so I can see exactly what they look like with my print template...bummer!

As far as I can tell, no, it hasn't been added to LR4. Unbelievable. Even the most basic of image editing applications allows users to save crop presets, but not Adobe Photoshop Lightroom ("Adobe" and "Photoshop" added for irony :-) I even went looking in the presets folder hoping that there might be some XML file that I could hack to add (and desirably remove) crop presets, but no such luck.

Hard to understand why this omission, and so many others things like it, persist for so long...
