Lightroom Classic: Sees my cameras, but not the photos on them

Question

Suddenly my LR CC running on iMac and newest macOS Catalina 10.15.2, refuses to locate photos on my Nikon D850. ( the same goes if I connect my iPhone 11Pro, and want to import photos from that unit).
LR will see the camera, but claims there are no photos. Taking the memorycard into cardreader, there is no problem.
if i start Photoshop instead, camera and photos are found!!!
i have the LR CC version 9.1 and camera raw 12.1
about one week ago it was all fine
suppose its a bug

Palle,Have you restarted your Mac? Tired a different USB-C port?

Restart was done, nothing changed. And I connect camera to a USB 2 port.(the other ones are in use)

Since Photoshop does not encounter this problem, I consider it a LR CC bug.

I have used same cable, permanently plugged into iMac for 'years'. Had a short notion it could be dirt in camera connector, but since LR see the camera type as D 850, and Photoshop works, it is not a hardware thing in my opinion

(btw the login procedure from safari/catalina does not allow me to enter this comunity, I have to use my iPad)

Next step to try is a Preference File reset:

A Preference File will survive a Lightroom uninstall/reinstall. Sometimes weird behavior is corrected/cured by resetting the preferences.Reset Procedure:
1. Close Lightroom.
2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.
3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.
4. Close Lightroom.
5. Restart Lightroom.
Does the behavior continue after resetting the preferences?

Just for your info, i connected my iphone 11 pro and it is not seen, even it connects to a differen usb port. But fine in photoshop

This looks like a permission issue happens with MacOS Catalina 10.15.2.
When you install Lightroom Classic 9.1 and open it for the first time, it should ask permission for accessing the Photos app.
Did you see it?
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
In the Privacy tab, select Security.
Does Lightroom Classic has permission assigned to Photos, Full Disk Access, and Files and Folders?

Downgrading Lightroom Classic will not help.
(Though it may not work,) could you please install Lightroom Classic 9.1 again and see if there is any change?

None of this is working for me. It was good until about three weeks ago. My solution is to AirDrop to my Mac and then Import in Lightroom with the Import interface. It's a bit more work but it works every time. All of my software is up-to-date.

Thanks for the clear explanation, had the same problem and was following other instructions to rest preferences etc and getting nowhere. Can now see photos and also cameras for tethered capture!

Thanks for confirming. We are glad that the solution worked for you.
Ideally, when you update to Lightroom Classic 9.1 and open it for the first time, you should have been asked to grant permission to access Photos.
Is there any chance that the permission was not granted unintentionally?
