Lightroom Classic: crashes (not responding) at convert to DNG stage during import

Since updating to Lightroom Classic CC version 7.3 when importing, they import fine but when it gets to the convert to DNG stage it converts a handful (perhaps a dozen) then lightroom hangs with the windows message (not responding) and remains like this until you force it to shut down.
The machine has Intel i7 chip, 8 Gb ram 1Tb hard drive with over 75% of space remaining.
The files are Canon CR2 RAW taken on Canon 5D Mark IV.

Nothing else has changed and I have tried deleting and re-importing several times and each time it hangs after converting a few.

Any help/suggestions will be much appreciated.

Maybe I'm being paranoid but are all the bugs in the new version (7.3) of Lightroom Classic and indication that a) Adobe are not putting as much effort into Classic as they promised and b) this will result in everyone moving over to Lightroom CC?

More like they bit off more than they could chew while trying to prove just how much effort they're putting in. I'd agree there are rather a lot of bugs in this release though.

What happens after import if you select Library > Convert Photos into DNG?
Do you face the same issue?

Thanks,
Sunil

Going that way works as it should and converts them all without problem.

Had same issues and disabling the hardware acceleration 'solved' it.

Thank you Karin,
I will try that and report back when I next import some photographs,  It's not likely to be before next weekend though as I'm working all week.

Tried that today but sadly the result is the same.
