Lightroom Classic: Camera Profiles that work for JPEG & RAW

I have spent a full day trying to to create a profile that is not camera model specific (ideally works for RAW & JPEG) and includes primary color calibration settings (see below)? Is my solution only to create a preset (and not a camera profile) with a Adobe Standard DCP Raw Profile (I read that on another thread but not sure how to do that). Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

If you go to Help>System Info... what is your version of Lightroom listed there?

You can certainly create a profile, but you will have to do this in Camera Raw. When you hold down the Alt (Macintosh Option) key when you save this as a new preset, the option becomes save as a new profile.

I have tried that already but it does not work on JPG files in lightroom CC. They only appear if a RAW file is selected.

After creating the profile, have you seen it in the profile browser in Camera Raw? Alt/Opt + right click it, and choose Rename. You can then set its group and things like the type of image.



Be extremely careful not to hit any of the Delete options in the right click menu. No-one at Adobe thought of asking if you want to confirm the deletion....

There is a way to change that, but it is very unintuitive. After you've created the profile, right-click on it in the profile browser. Hold down the Alt/Option key again and choose 'Rename Profile'. That will give you an advanced rename dialog, and one of the option in there is to change that limitation.

Yes I tried doing that and it showed up on Lightroom CC on JPEGS but the slider did very little and color was not being changed. After reading the SDK I think it might have to do with creating the profile with Adobe Color instead of standard?

In the SDK it says "With that done, your image will have the Adobe Color profile applied; it is our new default. For now, reset that to Adobe Standard: you’ll see why in a few steps." That said in Camera Raw, I do not see Adobe Standard in profiles.

It looks like the Calibration tab cannot be included in a profile after all...

I guess so. Or you could try to use a LUT in the profile.

Ok follow up question then. How do I get a preset to work on JPEG and RAW. Do I need to create it using Adobe Standard?

You don’t have to include ‘Treatment and Profile’ in this preset, check only Calibration. That means that the preset should work on both.

No. You should always only select those options that you actually want to apply . With this preset you only want to set the Calibration sliders, so you should only check that option.

Hi Johan! Do you know if it is possible to move a profile from one phone to another? I have made one for jpeg. And it works on my lightroom mobile but when i export to dng, the profile disapears. So it seems that it is impossible to transfer it to another phone with lightroom mobile unless they have lightroom desktop. Do you know if it is possible or not? Thanks in advance!

I don’t think you can. You could try exporting the jpeg as ‘original + settings’. That will export the jpeg unedited, but with the settings stored in metadata. Another version of Lightroom will read those metadata, but the problem is that you cannot save an embedded profile, you can only save settings as a new preset. That means you will probably see a ‘missing profile’ error, but it’s worth a try.

I am struggling to use my profiles created in Camera Raw on jpeg images in Lightroom. I am using Lightroom 10.0 and Camera Raw 13.

I looked at previous comments and went to "rename" my profile but I can not find the applicability menu anywhere. 

I would be so grateful for any help.

You have to hold the OPTION key when you choose 'Rename Profile'.
