Embedded Raw and the Camera Raw Filter

I think I know the answer to this, but I'd like confirmation.

From Lightroom I make a smart object TIF that is an embedded raw image. In Photoshop, if I double click that smart object it will open in camera raw where I can make changes on the raw data. That much I get.

However, if on the embedded raw smart object, instead of double clicking it I simply run the camera raw filter on it as a smart filter, I am no longer editing the raw data. That smart object may as well have been rasterized before creating the smart object. Correct?
