Camera Raw/Lightroom Classic/Lightroom Ecosystem: Modify Opacity of Crop Area

While in the crop tool (or anytime for that matter), click the "L" key on your keyboard once to dim everything except the un-cropped area, or press it twice to totally black out everything but the un-cropped portion of the image.  This is called 'Dimming" or "Turning off" the lights in LR.  Click it a 3rd time to go back to normal.   This is my normal practice when cropping.

 BTW, if you go someplace else with the lights dimmed or out it will look very unusual - almost like you're in a different application, so remember to turn the lights back on when you exit the crop tool.  (BTW - I recall that there is a preferences setting where you can adjust the opacity level in for "Lights Dimmed").

I know well this method of obscuring with the "L" key. The control panels do not become illegible. I would like the same thing as the L key without the tools.

I don't understand.  Here are 3 screen shots showing Lights on, dim and off and the control panels are dimmed. Are you seeing other behavior?  If so, please provide your system info (top 10 lines of menu Help -> System Info...  If you are seeing this behavior then please elaborate your point as i don't understand what you mean.  A screen shot would also help

I would like a slider for adjusting the opacity of the selection without touching the opacity of the tools.
