Camera Raw: Will the presence of xmp:crs tags in DNG always trigger opening with "Image Settings" instead of "Camera Raw Defaults"?

A question for "Adobe Engineering" - presence of xmp:crs tags (like Camera Raw UI settings for sharpening, noise reduction, etc) in DNG - will they always /if present/ trigger ACR to open DNG with "Image Settings" instead of "Camera Raw Defaults" (without .XMP sidecare present and no settings stored in "Camera Raw database") - means on both OSX and Windows platforms under all circumstances ?

now on my Win10x64 & ACR 10.2.1.895 that happens always, as somewhat expected (DNG has some xmp:crs tags for ACR settings stored - hence ACR does not open it applying "Camera Raw Defaults" - sound logical isn't it ?)...

but Brian from Iridient (X-Transformer) states on his setup, even with xmp:crs tags present in DNG files ACR will open them w/ "Camera Raw Defaults" settings... so ?

In general, the presence of these tags will trigger ACR to open the file as "Image Settings" (not Camera Raw Defaults), as long as the crs:AlreadyApplied tag is set to False. For most raw files that you edit (e.g., adjust sliders in ACR and click Done), this will be the case. If Brian is finding this is not the case, and this is creating a problem for him, feel free to ask him to contact us (send us a test DNG file, etc.) and we can look into it further. Hope this helps.

Now if I may ask for some further clarifications

So if I want to pass some UI adjustments to ACR to automatically be applied in UI on opening (by writing proper xmp:crs tags inside the DNG file) and yet I want ACR to apply "Camera Raw Defaults" (possibly overriding what I set inside DNG file itself) I need simply to write one extra tag inside DNG = crs:AlreadyApplied and set it to True...

Then regardless of whatever other xmp:crs tags are present inside DNG we get ACR to apply whatever "Camera Raw Defaults" are set by the user.

Is it correct understanding ?

Use the "http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-defaults/1.0/" (short name "crd") namespace instead of the "http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-settings/1.0/" (short name "crs") namespace to set default settings without marking the image as having non-default settings. This has worked for the last couple of dot releases for Adobe Camera Raw code based products.

The AlreadyApplied tag can be toggled with a script in Bridge. I'm not aware of any other user-accessible way to change it on demand.

It is related to Iridient X-Transformer that generates linear DNG from Fuji RAF raw files from cameras with Fuji's X-Trans CFA arrangement (and hence all those issues) so that people can then continue to work on them in other converters (like ACR/LR)...

So it is not exactly end user triggering - rather what X-Transformer UI allows user to do (it allows to pass some ACR/LR UI settings by writing tags inside DNG) and what user can expect upon opening such DNG in ACR/LR for the first time (when no .XMP sidecar or settings stored in database are yet present).
