Camera Raw: Raw files won't open in Photoshop after latest Windows 10 update

I installed the latest Windows 10 update and now the raw (.arw) files from my Sony A7III and the raw files from my Mavic 2 Pro (.dng) won't open. Photoshop just tells me it can't open the file because of a program error. I updated Photoshop and updated my graphics card driver (It's a GeForce GTX 1060).

I also downloaded and installed the lastest camera raw plugin from Adobe.

The raw files open in Lightroom...just not Photoshop. Any idea why this is happening?

Have you tried to reinstall Photoshop and Camera Raw?

I did, yes. Still no luck. I much prefer photoshop to Lightroom—so frustrating!

Hi DM,

A copy of the error log "PSErrorLog.txt" might help. Its location on your system is as follows:
 Mac: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings/PSErrorLog.txt

Since topic starter has a problem with Windows 10, shouldn't this be something like:

c:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings\PSErrorLog.txt

Here’s the last line of the error log:

“2019:08:19 02:34:59 : e:\ps\ps20\win64_release\20190724.r.80 \photoshop\main\photoshop\interfaces\utrackresourceimp.h : 134 : REQUIRE failed”

I figured it out. I’ll list out my solution in the event it might help someone in the future:

(I reinstalled PS and the camera raw plugin. I’m unsure if any of those actions helped but if the below steps don’t work, perhaps try that as well.)

- Go to Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw...
- On the General tab, select “purge cache” from the Camera Raw Cache section.
- once I hit OK, a welcome to camera raw screen popped up.
- import Raw file and get back to work XD
